I was wondering.. which normal damage inflicting guns compliment swords the best? Which has the most DPS?
I believe the only 5* normal damage guns are:
1) Valiance
2) Neutralizer
3) Iron Slug
4) Supernova

Now, the Neutralizer and Iron Slug don't look/sound that appealing, but I'll consider any comments/help.

Ok..

My Criteria:
1. Turrets can be a problem for a melee fighter, and you might think of using a gun.
2. Beasts and Gremlins (maybe Fiends) tend to dodge gunfire. So I may not want to use a gun on them. Unless it kills them in one attack (autogun series), or it's fast enough to hit them before they dodge (Iron Slug/Callahan).
3. Everything else can be put to the sword.

So we'll judge the guns in light of that.

1) Valiance is the average gun. Bullets provide a slight knockback away from you, so it's useful to keep a small group at bay. It's very easy to use compared to the other guns on your list.

2) It has slow bullets but do not expand. Charged shot sets up a bomb on the enemy detonated by normal shot. Steep learning curve. Usual rhythm is charged shot, shot, charged shot, shot, repeat. Bad against gremlins, and slimes are easy to sword so I wouldn't recommend the Biohazard over it. (Biohazard has poison chance though.)

3) Iron Slug is bad because you don't want to sit still while you're shooting turrets (unless there's only one of them). The advantage of iron slug over the others is a guaranteed "flinch" that stops an enemy attack. But you'd have to stand still while shooting it.

4) Supernova (or Polaris) is pretty good, it just takes a while to get use to. Exploding Supernova bullets do more damage than the Valiance per shot, but the knockback mechanic can cause lower DPS overall if used improperly. IMO Polaris is a superior choice because 2/3 of the turrets are weak to elemental (and 1 of them is neutral).

Don't forget the Pepperbox

Don't forget the Pepperbox (from the Autogun line). Its charge is quite unique in that it has a vacuum effect. It's useful for picking out healers from the middle of a group and also helps hit dodging enemies (to some degree).

I forgot about the part where you were asking about DPS :D

Ok, the Supernova/Polaris wins if you are merely concerened about DPS on turrets.

Valiance provides an average utility and damage but allows you to have a steady stream of damage without having to worry about enemy positioning.

Neutralizer can wipe out arena crowds with a bit of skill, but single-target damage is lackluster.

Iron Slug... kind of low on damage over time. I once used the Callahan which has piercing damage bonus on beasts and fiends and I still felt the damage was "meh" (after getting my hands on the needle shot that is).

The problem with an autogun/pepperbox/needleshot for a sword user is that you need to charge it to be useful and in most cases you'd want to use a sword for better damage (unless you are using a pepperbox and pulling healers like Milkman said). And then there's turrets...

Ha, I see what you're getting at.. I could just use the Polaris instead of the Supernova because Polaris is only weak against Gremlins and Beasts, which are two families of monsters that I usually only use my swords against.

@Milkman
Aha, I totally forgot about the Volcanic Pepperbox.. Thanks, Milk. :D

Normal Damage guns are a waste of money, even for swordies D: They do crappy damage, you must get a ele or shadow gun as swordie.

Personal experience

I'm an ex-swordie bomber convert, and I have been looking for a normal damage gun to back me up since i realised my shadow driver(is that the 4* one?) was starting to le suck towards endgame (IE FSC), so I wanted a normal damage gun, something that did the same damage to all mobs.

From my experience:
Neut - I had 4* catalyzer, it's not really made to be used as a "Gun" per se, so not really
Iron Slug - again, it's not really too great, Callahan is much better, get them fiends dead :D
Supernova - Currently using this, the explosions interrupting puppies and howlitzers is handy, also it explodes like bombs :D
Valiance - I was debating getting it, the charge has nice knockback, and the normal shots have a little push too.

Overall, I'd say it goes down to Vali/Nova (I think the damage difference between the two is hardly anything too), but it depends how you intend to use it.

Haven't tried the Nova yet

Haven't tried the Nova yet (will probably take my Pulsar -> Polaris). I have a Valiance as a backup to my swords and I love it. I have tried a good bit of the 2* & 3* options and I found I like the blaster line the best. It is mobile (can move and fire), has 3 shots, shots are big (easier to hit with) but not screen blockers, has slight knockback on normal shots, and is useful against everything (though there is a better gun for each thing). I solo a ton & like to be able to use my handgun on anything if my health gets too low. The normal shot kickback on the Val is nice, but not enough to mess up teammates by flinging enemies all over, so its not to annoying to spam it when in a party either.

I thought about Nova, but since I already have a Val doesn't seem worth it. Thinking Polaris for my gunpuppy killer though.

Thanks for the advice, guys!

I've decided to get the Valiance, Polaris, and Callahan altogether; y'know, while I'm already spending money on guns.. why not get several? :D

Should I be judging the Pulsar line by the 2* version? I tried it out a bit and didn't like it much at all. Hopefully, the bullets get faster.. because by the time my bullets reached the enemies, they already moved, aha.

What dark ritual?

If you were to only get one gun, I'd get either the Valiance or Supernova. Neutralizer is decent I've heard, havnt got to use it myself yet, making my own ATM. :D

Hope you like your new guns. (Swords are BETTER!) XD

Edit: that's why I chose Valiance over supernova, even at 5*, enemies such as gremlins, fiends, and beasts woul have more than likely already dodged the bullets. Whereas Valiance is fast and can go and hit them without a problem. Volc pepperbox is a no, and probably always will be, along with the iron slug. Neutralizer has decent speed I think, but the one gun I say who ha it had Asi VH. >.>

You will hit nearly every mob

You will hit nearly every mob with Supernova... Valiance does just hit 1-2 of the enemies while Supernova can hit more, deals Splash, and does interrupt Puppies attacks. :) But i like Valiance cause of the easier handle. How ever:

Tennis, its useless to get Valiance if you got Polaris and Callahan. Callahan is good against every type of beasts and fiends additional its pretty good against gremlins. Polaris is good against all undead and puppies, including polyps (because you can interrupt their attacks too with expanded bullets). So ... you just have "problems" with Jellies and maybe some gremlins. You need a shadow gun, because Valiance is completly useless, due doin' just normal damage that does Callahan too to grems and Polaris to jellies. Get Biohazard or Alchemer, Sentenza is not good against jellies cause of pierce part.

As for a gunner - Normal guns are a completly NO GO!

btw ... Guns > Bombs > Swords :D

If you are going for a Gunner

If you are going for a Gunner loadout you are better off picking guns that do pure damage and getting at least one gun for each damage type. I love my Val, but that is because I only carry one gun.

[Pulsar] "Hopefully, the bullets get faster."
Sorry, but no. The Polaris has very slow projectiles. You can outrun them. The Pulsar's selling point is the expanded projectiles dealing more damage and having a larger area of effect (think slow BFG, though not BFG level of destruction). I believe the Alchemer lines all get faster with each upgrade, but I can't confirm that first hand.

Just testet it and its

Just testet it and its totally true!

Alchemers get very much faster and longer range per every upgrade! They are awesome in the end! As a Master Gunslinger i want to know everything of every gun, so I had to create too Alchemers. I won't tell anyone something wrong. So i made some time ago an Prisma Alchemer wich is atm 4*. Its really good and already deals more damage than Polaris 5*. But 2 Shot instead of 3 and the missing splash and the missing cancel of puppies let me still beleve its not as strong as the Polaris. Hoever its much better against Kitties and Mecha knights. How ever, back to topic: I just made my 2* Shadow Alchemer and noticed the speed and range difference. So I took my old 3* Shock Alchemer and looked at all them - its true yes, they definitly get major adds at higher level, makes them very potent weapons!

Feel free to ask about them!

Thanks, Big! I'll try to enjoy my guns! I hope you enjoy.. your swords, ha.

@Abathur
I see what you're saying.. but I'll probably use Valiance as my only gun in a set, whenever I use it (for example, if I have 3 swords equipped and need a gun just in case). And I like the Blaster line especially because it's easy to handle, like you said.

Yes, I know the Alchemers are awesome! I have a Hail Driver myself. :D

But honestly, the only reason I'm getting these guns are because I'm bored and don't know what to spend money on. ;)

IMO, it goes like this... Swords > Guns > Bombs

@Bluescreenofdeath
Oh, no, no. I'm not going for a Gunner loadout, haha.
I'm just getting a few guns to increase my knowledge of guns in general and to put it bluntly, entertain myself with something new so I don't get bored of SK. :D

Aww, that's sad how the Pulsar bullets don't get faster as they're upgraded. But I'll get a Polaris anyway.
If this many people suggest getting one, they must be worth looking into. ;D
I'll just have to equip my Swiftstrike Buckler whenever using the Polaris then.
