I apparently have no clue whatsoever why it's not working properly, trying just to run the game and I get the same box suggesting I take a gender at the technical support. I'd like some help understanding what needs improvement.

I'm sorry for providing a wall of text, I'm not sure what parts I should leave out or keep.

Here's what I got from dxdiag:

Your video card drivers are

Your video card drivers are from 2006, and isn't even the official catalyst package.

You can try installing the legacy driver packages from AMD, but theres no guaranty it'll detect and install right. If it doesn't, then you'll have to dig around the Toshiba support site to see what drivers they have archived (probably nothing more recent then 2008).

32-Bit Legacy drivers

64-Bit Legacy drivers

Thanks for the advice and

Thanks for the advice and links, I'll try that out immediately.

Edit: I did install it, I apparently have installed it before and there's no difference in the outcome. Same message, same advice.

That's a bit difficult when

That's a bit difficult when there's not even such a folder as far as I can see, even by reinstalling it I cannot see it anywhere. There's a folder though still in the Program Files' folder for Java where Spiral Knights is held.

P.S

Turns out it was in the "AppData" folder, "roaming", "Three rings design". I'm used to finding most things right in the "Program" folder.

Log:

2011/10/05 17:34:59:205 INFO I$a.b: Logging to 'C:\Users\profilename\AppData\Roaming\Three Rings Design\Spiral Knights\.\projectx.log'.

That folder path implies you

That folder path implies you used the Downloadable Client, but did not change the default install path to something of your choosing.

Did that end up insalling the Catalyst Control Center? If so, could you to the 3D Settings tab and try changing the Catalyst A.I. to standard. That tends so be a hiccup on older ATI products.

I'm not sure I entirely understand what you're saying. However, I tried changing the AI to "Standard" and run Spiral Knights - there's no difference. Same results.

You can try modifying the registry using the instructions in the link, but use " 1024, 768, 16, 60 " instead in the display mode.

Same ol' same ol'

I updated the registry, it was completely empty of those string values. No difference though, same issue. However, there was a slight change in the issue.

With the updated registry, following the wiki-article, no difference. Adding the values you recommended made it at least appear as a black screen and then the usual message pops up.

2 things left to try.

2 things left to try. First try updating java here. http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Second thing you can try is going into the Catalyst control center and globally disabling Triple Buffering.

How do I do that? Where? I'm currently unable to spot it.

Edit: I found it for some reason by right-clicking the icon, and not in the actual catalyst control center. I'm not sure how to interpret the issue but some settings are "checked" whilst some aren't. "Triple buffering" was not "checked".

Enabling/Disabling "Triple buffering" made no difference.

You said you noted a difference after updating the registry. Could you paste the contents of project.log again? Maybe there is a new error.
