Accessories: Heavy Maedate

Dear Spiral Knights,
I was really annoyed yesterday when i brought a iron lockbox and opened because a Heavy Maedate was inside. Is this accessory meant to be off the head, floating. Many of my friends said it looked weird and would look better if it was attached to the head.

Given the screen shot, my guess is it doesn't go with armor with a low set forehead.
