I'm going to be gone on the weekend, and wanted to log in from my friend's pc just to use up the mist crafting. I have two questions:

1. I normally play SK through my steam account. Can I log in to spiral knights without installing steam?

2. Can I run SK directly from a flash drive or SD card? Again, I really don't want to install anything on my friend's PC, and I should only be playing about 5 minutes a day until I get back.

Unless you have the non-Steam client and an account, you'll have to login via Steam.

If the above applies, you should be able to. If not, but your friend's computer has/gets Steam, I believe it can still be done; I'd suspect you'll have to move more than just your SteamSK folder around, though.

Steam accounts can only be

Steam accounts can only be used via Steam, there's no way around this.

You can run a web account off of a thumb drive quite easily. Just use the downloadable client and direct the install at the thumb drive. In the install folder you'll find a Play Spiral Knights link. Just edit the "Target" so it points at the firend's computer's Java installation and the "Start in" to the SK installation folder on the thumb drive. Save the changes and click the link.

To help simplify it, you

To help simplify it, you could just copy the system java files on the thumb drive, and make the shortcut point to it. Steam essentially does the same thing so you don't need to install java independently.

this all sounds complicated, and it sucks if I can't do anything without installing something.

If you can convince steam to

If you can convince steam to make a portable client that doesn't require a service to run, more power to you.
