I was playing Lockdown one day and I noticed the severe imbalance issues (sealed sword and twisted snarble barb vs blaster and calibur, seriously?), so I decided to think of a PVP game mode that would take some skill to play. If you like what I thought of, say so in the comment section below. If you don't think it should be implemented, then say so and tell me why. Here's what I came up with:
As title indicates, it's every player for him/herself. You start in a big room similar to the Clockworks' Battle Arenas. No obstacles are present so you can't simply damage people by shooting nearby explosives or luring them into traps. There is a 5 minute time limit, but no score cap and the rules are simple: kill anything besides yourself and get the most kills before time runs out.
Armor: Everyone gets the same piece of armor that grants the player 20 health squares. Your costume slot applies here because everyone is equally durable despite what individual avatars look like (plus everyone likes to look unique!). Your armor has no perks or resistances, just to not overcomplicate the combat.
Speed: Everyone has identical movement speeds.
Shields: Typical shields. No super speed, invisibility, or area-of-effect force fields. However, your defense power will be slightly lower than in PVE so people can't just hold their shields up and block everything.
Weapons: You start out with three weapon slots: one Crystal Bomb and two randomized weapons which are preselected by the game before the match begins (always one gun and one sword). Weapons that deal status effects will not show up in the selection because those would be potentially annoying and would slow the game mode's pacing down (imagine if everyone had fire based weapons--all you would have to do is spam charged shots and wait for other players to burn to death before you do).
Health system: Your character slowly regenerates health if you avoid taking damage. I wasn't initially considering this but I've noticed that in games where you can't heal, people simply use dying and respawning as a sneaky way to refill their health bars (which sounds pretty stupid but people actually do it since there's no regen system).
Pickups: Everyone has one pickup slot which can only be occupied by one vial at a time to prevent spamming. This vial, like your gun and sword, are randomly selected before the match. However, since most status effects would slow the game down, the game will only select either a Poison or Stun vial. Every time you kill an enemy, his/her body drops a vial of the same type which you can pick up. Auto aim is disabled so you can't just target lock somebody and get an easy hit.
Note: I'm not sure whether Remedy Capsules should be allowed here or not.
- If the game selects a poison vial, use it to temporarily impede health regeneration and take down your opponent before he can restore back to full health.
- If it selects a stun vial, use it to slow down your opponent and either pop off some accurate shots or close the gap for a melee assault (you can't outrun enemies any other way).
