Do your school computers

Do your school computers allow you to download data onto them? It could be that the download is simply blocked by the school's internet security.

Heh, hi. That really sounds

Heh, hi. That really sounds like it's your school's internet is preventing the game from updating. I don't know the exact details about how it works, but it sounds like my university has a similar system. I haven't tried downloading Spiral Knights through my university yet, but I do know for League of Legends I am able to download the game, but won't let me ever patch it. The internet seems to block the patching process for some reason, and I never managed to figure out a workaround, sorry.

If you can download the

If you can download the installer/applet, then you should be able to download the rest, since they're both obtained via HTTP from download.threerings.net. Can you access, for instance, this file? One thing that might help us is if you post the launcher.log file, which you should be able to find by opening the Spiral Knights application bundle (right-click/control-click, Show Package Contents) and navigating into (if I remember correctly) Contents/Resources/Java.
