Maze-Type Levels

I know that some levels have buttons to press and switches to turn, but...what i mean is more in depth.

Basically, I'm asking if it would be ok to make some maze-type levels where...you have to go across the map and get key-type objects to unlock gates. Like, there could be a green, red, blue and white key. You can only unlock gates corresponding to the color of the keys. That way, there would be some levels where you have to play around the gates for treasure instead of just walking inside and grabbing it.

Doom had something similar to it, where you had to grab key cards to open doors. It kept me entertained a bit.

Also, there could be traps inside the maze. Like, if you open a gate and walk into an empty room, the gate could lock and you would have to fight a bunch of monsters to exit (similar to the attacks in other levels where you battle monsters to open gates and advance). Or, there could be a really strong monster inside that you have to kill for a gold key, which could open an elevator's gate.

Not a fan of this idea. The clockworks tunnels levels are already maze-y enough, and for people who prefer to scrub levels clean it would just unnecessarily waste their time.
