Hi there i've always wanted to play sk without the hassle of always restarting my computer and starting over when my display driver fails. i was wondering whether or not there is something i can do to prevent it from failing without having to upgrade my pc. i followed the instructions to check whether or not my pc has the minimum requirements to play and it appears to me that i do. so i was wondering why this would happen. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the video card and

Depends on the video card and the error. Older ATI cards and most of the Intel chips have ongoing issues.... and newer ATI cards as well.

Either way, check for hs_errPID###.log files in the SK folder. And check the projectx.log to see if it caught any exception errors prior to the crash.

Ditto

Hey,
I seem to have the exactly same problem as Bajilliom. As I'm not quite a genius when it comes to computers, I do not know what I can use the above information to? However, I have 8 hs_errPID###'s telling about errors. Also, the projectx.log reports several exceptions saying:
yyyy/mm/dd ##:##:##:### WARNING I$a.b: Failed to find property. [name=target, object=[]]

Can someone please tell me what to do so I can prevent these really annoying close downs?
Thanks in advance

I'm not sure which

I'm not sure which information you need, the logs are pretty long. At top this is what they say:

#
# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=#, pid=#, tid=#
#
# JRE version: 6.0_29-b11
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (20.4-b02 mixed mode, sharing windows-x86 )
# Problematic frame:
# C [ig4dev32.dll+0x3631f]
#
# If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit:
# The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code.
# See problematic frame for where to report the bug.
#

This was just the first log, the others have different data at pc=0x06e4631f, pid=588, tid=5600.

Besides this there are also the sections "THREAD", "PROCESS" and "SYSTEM". I don't know if this information has given any help, or if more specific info is needed. In that case just let me know :)

ig4dev32.dll You're probably

ig4dev32.dll

You're probably running Intel 4 Series integrated graphics on 32-bit Windows. Could you please confirm this is the case? All you have to do is press with Windows Key + R to bring up the Run box, type dxdiag and press enter. Move to the Display tab and the Name field will tell you the graphics device.

Then your actually below the

Then your actually below the minimum requirements. The Intel graphics series were never officially supported, but a few of the late GMA and most of the HD series can run the game, provided you have the latest drivers direct from Intel. Even then, stability can be iffy since the game runs in OpenGL, and the GMAs were more DirectX focused to run on Windows laptops.

At best you can try updating drivers, but beyond that your only option is to move to new hardware.
