Ok, I am a knight that generally plays Spiral Knights without the music on. I like to do this because I get to hear the true game noises and it helps me get into the game that I am playing. Unless you can really tell that you are meant to hear the music, or it is for some reason outstanding (which I am not saying SK's music is not :P) then I might have it on while I play a game.
The issue I am having is that there is very little ambient noises to hear in Spiral Knights! Right now I am hearing snipes chirp only on occasion or when I do hear them, I don't even notice because it happens not that often. I suggest that the snipes would chirp more often and slightly louder at farther distances from the snipes since the chirp is very faint unless you are very close to one. While at the auction house, I will say I very much do like the fact that I get to hear the Stranger's noises when someone opens the auction house window. The water is also nice to hear, but there isn't enough else going on I think. I think if the snipes had a longer chirping range, then that would help this.
In the clockworks, its another issue. Usually, the only thing I hear is the sound of my footsteps. The quiet can be kind of disturbing. I would suggest, for example, adding something like an ominous, quiet wind in the candlestick keep or bells ringing in the graveyard etc. to make it sound more alive. Have the wild paths / places with trees have the leaves rustle etc. I am not at all an expert at making sounds for a game, but I can tell that there needs to be more! Please tell me what you think or if you agree, also any suggestions.
As long as more sounds loading doesn't mean more lag for me, then go ahead!
