Its a big mystery here as

Its a big mystery here as well. Both Leopard and Lion can run the same sub-version of Java, but its not clear if the implementations are different in any way.

Here are the reply they gave

Here are the reply they gave me that left me baffled ....

" Greetings, It appears the way Java is handled in OSX Lion was significantly changed. Java is no longer installed by default and when a Java application is run on the computer a new version that is different to the one previously available in Snow Leopard is downloaded the first time Java is required to run an application. This new Java version, only available to Lion users, is likely responsible for the large change you are seeing. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do here to change how Apple distributes updates to its customers. It appears that Apple is planning to step back and allow Java’s owner company, Oracle, to manage updates in the future. However, that will only be viable for users with Intel based Macs. "

It sounds like Oracle will be

It sounds like Oracle will be handling java for Mac from here on out. But it does confirm that Lion uses a different implementation, and its 10 times better then what they've put out before.
