Spiral Knights used to run near flawlessly for me, running smoothly everywhere, save for about once in every thousand where my character would suddenly teleport back. However, after the patch, i've been "rubber-banding" quite a lot now, going really slow for a few seconds, then going extremely fast. Is it me, or is it the update?

Mostly, not always, internet
Mostly, not always, internet connection is thing that matters least often. You download client and communication between client and server is not really big to take huge amounts of data transfer and require high internet speed (by that i mean more than 1024 Kilobytes/second).
For spiral knights i noticed that its mostly CPU that matters, maybe you had some programs running in background that take CPU over and make you lag in SK? (It happens to me when Antyvir makes some updates or background scanning)
i think it's just your network connection speed. check to see if your network is getting slower and use a direct cable link. it helps speeding up your network. i have the same problems everytime when my network starts to slow down..
