Imk not the one to normally rage on the forums, but...
Seems like more noobs and more beggars are coming into the SK community (Proof on the forums and in nearly ever Haven nowadays).

I'm fine with noobs, especially if they take advice from experienced players and help out at their best in the community.

But NOOOOO. Not these ones. Just beg beg beg for more CR and whine even more.
I know this was somewhat expected, but it seems like this is getting worse everyday. I counted 5 beggars in a Haven once. One claimed he was hacked( doubt it) and I gave him instructions on how to contact OOO for help, yet he responded "your too boring" then proceeded to beg....

-.-

Now me and my friends spend more time in havens with a population of 0 or just in our guildhall.
Don't know what to say at this point, and ignoring people can only help so much when you need to ignore another person each day.

Xylka please give me crowns.

Xylka please give me crowns. I need 1000 cr to make my calibur please halp.

On a serious note there are several ways to have fun with this:

1. You can accept their trades and put up large sums of crowns/ce but don't click Confirm. Do this especially if you've got nothing better to do and/or are just chatting with friends/guild-mates. Ignore them if they get too whiny, but keeping em there means at least they aren't begging in other places.

2. Really just ignoring each and every one everytime any knight starts begging. The supply of beggars can't be infinite, o.o, I hope.

3. Go to Guildhall yeah. That's a good choice if your guild-mates are also most of your friends in-game. You can even invite people to your guildhall who aren't guild-mates.

4. If they spam too much or break any OOO rules (for evading the chat filter for instance) hit them with a Report and hopefully they'll get banned or temp. banned at least.

I agree, there are more beggars and some seem to be pushy, demanding, and rude. Not to mention that they don't stop if I don't give money...

I wonder what brought this change in economy about. SK launch on Kongregate? Seems unlikely.

Hide works well I think

-When people spam trade me I hide the trade request instead of selecting "No Thanks", I think it prevents them from spamming since they already sent one request.

-Also, yes, moving to less-populated Havens helps.

-Wearing Proto armor and shield and turning inspect off also helps, I rarely get bugged when I wear bad armor.

-I like to go to the German-language Haven when it is off-peak time for them to avoid spammers(French and Spanish work OK too, but since there are more countries that speak those languages in different timezones, it is not quite as effective). However, if you do this please be courteous to your German players and do not flood public chat with English.

i remember how i couldnt play on my 1st days, when i was out of energy, so if there are bored newbies, they might resort to those activities, that trouble other players

a simple and easy solution is an on and off switch for trade requests

The worst ones beg during a run. You are a few floors from royal jelly or roarmulus and someone asks for energy or to be put on a tab. They then proceed to troll until they get what they want.

I kick beggars for this reason. If I'm not leading and the leader won't kick them then I will go solo instead.

"Seems like more noobs and more beggars are coming into the SK community (Proof on the forums and in nearly ever Haven nowadays)."

really? it seems to me that we're having a shortage on my army of noobs.

yes, i have an imaginary army of noobs.

"3. Go to Guildhall yeah. That's a good choice if your guild-mates are also most of your friends in-game. You can even invite people to your guildhall who aren't guild-mates."

u can do that?????

anyways, when there are beggars, i tell them to go to the clockworks or do pvp. if they keep trolling me, i tell them NO. and that normally shuts them up. for a few seconds, anyways.

"The worst ones beg during a run. You are a few floors from royal jelly or roarmulus and someone asks for energy or to be put on a tab. They then proceed to troll until they get what they want."

that reminds me of something I know happened to someone i know. i wont mention any names, though. Anyways, the guy I knew was on a roary run. his party had all died on the final battle of the first IMF level. he invited a certain guildy to help them. and he helped them, but he died. all thgouth out the battle, he kept saying, "Give me 1378 cr" or something like that. anyways, he wanted 1.??? k cr. the guy i know revved his guildy with his CE, since he was out of ME, and the guildy had the least rev cost, and he told him, "I revved you." the guildy said, "I wont rev unless u give me 1??? cr." the guy i know said "no" and the guildy left. so the guy i know wasted 10 ce, but revved himself and beat the level.

that's a perfect example of a troller, i think (Necro! Don't think! You'll hurt yourself!).

"WHAT ARE YOO DOING HERE NOOBIE??"

I do my best at sincerity-gauging-fu, and pick out the beggars who have truly tried their best and are stuck at the jump between T2 and T3.
However, it seems that the people with this kind of positive spirit are also the kind who wouldn't resort to begging in the first place.
This is too much to think about, so I just give 500 dolla, whatever. You can tell me that what I am doing does not help the situation because it condones begging, and you have a great point! But these beggars are most probably young children who haven't developed a good sense of patience and deferred gratification. Ever heard about the Stanford Marshmallow Test?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_marshmallow_experiment

The energy system plays havoc on their little minds. I have younger siblings and so I sort of feel sorry for them when they aren't enjoying the game. Just make a little kid somewhere's day I guess.

There's always going to be n00bs and beggars in certain games, just the facts of "life."

I am seeing an influx of beggars in the clockworks though. Strangely enough the same guy was in my party two different times -- 2 different days asking for 1k cr and 200 ce to craft stuff.

I haven't noticed an

I haven't noticed an increased amount of beggars in Haven, but just recently, I ran into two beggars in Clockworks--this scenario pisses me off the most. A noob just wouldn't get onto the elevator until someone gave him 2k or put him on tab, and since he's the leader and I didn't want to lose my heat, all I could do was fume silently.

The other one was worse; he's got full Vog, DA, trinkets, you name it--he really don't need to beg. Level right before the Roar twins, just as we were about to go, the dude joins the party. Nobody invited him, so he must've been either a guildie or a friend of the other two people in the party. He expresses disappointment in joining so late, rest of us agrees with him. Then he refuses to get onto the elevator until one of us puts him on tab. WTF? YOU joined the party, why should the rest of us pay for your stupidity? I always check in with someone if I want to join their party out of curtsey in case they want to solo or are saving a spot, so maybe this dude should do this too.

Beggars are a fact of MMO

Beggars are a fact of MMO life and always have been. In the F2Ps I've played they do seem to be much more common though. The solution has never changed though - /ignore, then kick them out of your party if you're unfortunate enough to be grouped with them.

The absolute worst thing you can do is actually give something to a begger. I remember in World of Warcraft there was a person who asked for some gold and they had a similar name to a guildmate of mine. I wasn't paying much attention so I mistook them for my guildmate and I gave them what they asked for.

For literally two weeks I could not get rid of this guy. Every time I logged on, he was there, looking for more handouts. I tried to be nice, I tried to be reasonable, I tried to explain how to be a productive member of MMO society and not a moocher because everyone hates beggars. Nothing got through. He was like one of those South Park zombies who exist only to feed on change. Eventually I had to /ignore him which is what I should and would have done to begin with.

I remember trolling some guy

I remember trolling some guy in WoW who was begging. He opened a trade window in my face and I pretended to put money in and closed the window on him. He thought I gave him money told me thanks and ran off. Funniest thing ever.

My main qualm is party hijackers in the clockworks who don't get on the elevator. And it's worst when they're party leader. They need to have an option in the report a player area for people who hold parties hostage like that. Then remove them asap. People begging in Haven are easy to avoid, it's the ones actually in your group who wait until the end of the run and beg who bug me the most.

While your idea is good, I

While your idea is good, I gave a beggar 1000cr once when he asked for 2k and told him to "stop begging now", but he then begs right after AGAIN for 2k. We all in Haven were thinking "wtf..."

And thanks for that article on delayed gratification, it was a good read :D

Next beggar I see, ill do the following:

Velcro's steps to beggar trolling
tell them repeatedly to shut up
Ask for the gift they wanted to give when opening the trade window.
/Ignore them
Report them (they WILL spam. Fact.)

All that combined should let them rage.
And I'm sorry to say but if this game was made for 13-year-olds and older I am treating them as such.

Funniest part today was when i filled the trade window with my stuff, and the beggar then proceeded to say, "no only 300cr"

At least he was honest...but still 4*....

Beggars gonna beg

Here's my method of dealing with them:

Put my Regalia/UV item collection on window
Say "OMG [reason to go afk here]"
Wait until they ragequit
Say "[something along the lines of 'I'm back, where's the trade window?]"

I know someone else who just pretends not to know how to confirm trades, etc.

I remember dressing up as a

I remember dressing up as a noob (changing in front of) and begging while talking to some of my freinds. I didnt change my weapon because I was too lazy (before loadout times...). One said "Ok, sure a noob with a nitronome really needs to beg", I said, 'Yup!"
He gave me 200 cr....

But thats off the point since it was a freind. Yeah there is, or was a large flood of newbies coming in, especially that now they are one of the top MMOs on Kogregate.
http://www.kongregate.com/games/SpiralKnights/spiral-knights
That means, those noobs dont understand the real value of the energy system and how it keeps a very economical game in check. So....they are impatient and either ragequit or stand in haven and beg (also the extreme case of raging before elevators, but I am yet to encounter one of those..huh must be new thing then?) And since i have 280k cr and 7k CE I think I can have a little fun with beggas. And I dont realy care if they are polite because they were being rude in the first place by begging and filing up the chat! (reminds me of nyan spammers). So you are giving them what they want, so sure they might continue playing the game so you just saved OOO a customer! But, next time they run out of energy wut are they gonna do? BEG.

about those elevator trolls, there has been suggested a leader kick by majority vote. When i join a party at the end of a level, i just say "awwww man..." AND GET OVER IT. If i run out of mist in the middle of the run, I leave or tap in to the vast expanse of my CE. Most of the time there is nice player who gives me some CE. If you trolls are reading this, take this into into consideration, or maybe even ask nicely for a small donation. Also NEVER energy rez another player, first of all, trolling opportunity, second, it annoys experienced players if some people are still alive, and sometimes even if all the players are dead. WHY? it raises the energy cost for the person you rezed! It may seem like a gift, but n the long run its a curse and some people even exploit it.

Tell me about it

Personally, I don't mind beggers. Well, the few of them that just ask around generally if anyone can spare them something.

The ones I absolutely DESPISE are the ones that bug you about giving them free stuff. SPECIFICALLY.

Like this one dude who kept telling me 'cuter giv' after he added me. He seemed to not understand when I told him that I didn't have a cutter, and when he finally understood, he called me a noob.

After I un-added him, he tried to add me again and asked me for a gun. -_-

And the nerve of some players! I saw this player, dressed in noob gear, asked me on whispers for 2* gear, which I was giving away to a real noob. After calling me mean, the next time I saw him, he was wearing an Ashtail set and had a Defender, and a Snarble Barb. He pretended not to know me. After disappearing, he reappeared in his noob gear, but with the snarble barb still, pretending to have no-idea about the mechanics of the game.

Quotes:
'What's ce?'
'What's cr?'
'What's a noob?'
'What's a snarble barbe?' (After I tell him that he left it attached.)

I despise these kind of pushy beggers...

EDIT: Forgot to mention, he made the gear switch several more times. Each time recognising me, but pretending not to remember what argument we had about him not being a noob. He even left the Snarble barb attached, and his guild was displayed.

You know who you are...-_-.....

How to "win"

1: Identify target
2: Tell them you want to surprise them by filling their character with 5* equipment if they give you their account information
2.1: If they claim refuse to cooperate claim that simply trading the items will not work
3: Gain access to their account
3.1: Take anything you want from them if you so please
4: Delete their character
5: Create a new character on their account with "troll", "beggar", "diaper", or anything silly in the name
6: Receive harassment mail from them on this character
7: Report
7.1: They may attempt to retaliate and claim you stole their account in their defense
7.2: Claim they gave you their information, which is technically true
7.3: GMs would not care because player incompetency is personal responsibility; you are responsible for keeping your information secret from others
7.4: One less in the fodder count
8: You gain no profit from this other than entertainment

I am kidding, of course. Anyone who gives their account information away is too incompetent to even play. I do not condone account/information theft and do not participate in the activity, even if it would benefit the community and remove incompetent players from upsetting those competent. I am also not hiding under your bed with my face upside down, smiling so hard I drool all over the floor.

Yes, I'm talking about the players who loiter around the Haven Auction House, shouting and whining for that extra 1,000 crowns, claiming they need it so badly... while wearing 5* armour and costume hats.

Moral of the story? Begging makes you a loser, no matter who you are.
