A drone just stopped moving. No it was not shwoing his weak spot to attack it.
It either did completely stop or was trying to move against the wall.
Could post more screenshots but its pointless, you cant appreciate lack of movement on an image :p

I've seen it happen too.
It usually happens when I ran far away to do something - a long branch in the dungeon, leading foes back to another room, etc. When I came back sometimes the drones would stop moving.
Another variant of this bug is that the drone's animation is inverted - standing still, vulnerable with attacking animation; and moving, invulnerable and attacking with the idle animation.

I can stop a shankles
I can stop a shankles movement for a defensive cycle by freezing it when it's vunerable. So it goes "Vunerable", I freeze it, It returns to it's regular invincible state but stops moving. The next time it lifts up, and then goes back down again it starts moving again.
I've noticed Whisps showing inverted animations, but not shankles.
Yeah, I've seen that happen a few times.
