So as a relatively new player, I'm having a good time playing ignorantly and generally doing whatever. Well, I run into a lot of more experienced players in tier 2 and many of them have helpful advice to give me. It has been pointed out to me how awesome the Owlite Shield line's stats are for tier 2, and later for tier 3, and I am inclined to agree based on what I can see. There is only one problem. The Owlite Shield is very bad looking.

So 1> why aren't there appealing alternatives to this shield? The various elemental breaker shields only go up to 3 star and have no advantage over Owlite. The other shields that might work as alternatives are all 5 star.

2> At the very least, being able to use another shield as a costume would be great. I have no problems equipping an Owlite shield if I can at least disguise it with even the Proto Shield.

Now that I've learned why gunpuppies and constructs in general shred my poor defender, I cannot unsee :( AAAAAAHHHH

It could upgrade into the alternative Heater Shield, which has stats similar to Owlite but resists freeze instead of fire and shock.

PLATE SHIELD

Plate shield has to be the best alternative to the owlite. My friend and I went on a Jelly King run and when the Jelly King was doing his spinning frenzy we both got caught by it. His shield broke and he took alot of damage but mine survived. The best 5* version of the plate series, Volcanic Plate shield is protective against stun and fire, the most common statuses in FSC. The plate series also have some of the highest normal resistance making them a shield usable against all types of enemies. I've own both an owlite and a plate shield. I never use the owlite shield anymore because the plate shield trumps it on all bases.

He means the Heater Shield is awful. The defenses are lower than Grey Owlite, and it only provides one status resistance.

Best all-around shield in the game is actually Crest of Almire imo since all the hardest enemies in the game do shadow damage, but yeah...not exactly a starter shield.

The thing is...

The huge HP on the plate makes it very useful against any foe... i'd suggest it if you don't like the owlite (I don't either) and the 5* does help a tone against vana, slag walkers, and trojans... i have had both and the plate is much more appealing...

Jiasen, the only reason his shield broke and your's survived, is because plate has a higher health than owlite. Neither of you had piercing on those shields. If it was, say, twisted targe, yours would break much quicker.

Owlite looks great 5*, what are you talking about..

Wrong
RJ does normal damage and Plate has more normal defense so it lasts longer. All shield of the same star have the same amount of health except for the tortoise line.

Are you talking about the Gray Owlite looking awful? Because the 2~4* versions of Owlite do look pretty failuristic, but the 5* version kicks in nicely.

Sayin' that, since there's no "fashion" shield option, you're generally gunna have to just stick with what works, unfortunately, shields are pretty important things, and dropping to a far less useful shield for aesthetics can be pretty punishing.
