After using my only shield (Grey Owlite Sheild) since I began SK several months ago, I've been thinking of finally investing into a new shield. I know the Crest of Almire is the best shadow shield there is, but the Dread Skelly Shield caught my eye. It's aesethetically pleasing and it dosesn't seem that many people use it for general use. My question is how well does this shield stand up against the fire breathing slags in FSC?

Cheers,
Sorb

Shadow damage isn't a big

Shadow damage isn't a big threat in FSC. The slags, while numerous, are quite easy to avoid. Your grey owlite will fare much better on the whole.

You may want a Dread Skelly for shadow snarby or a Crust of Almire for shadow FSC, and you'll definitely want some sort of shadow shield for fighting kats and fiends in non-boss levels. But for regular FSC: no, a shadow shield shouldn't be high on your list.

If you only currently have a grey owlite, you might look at getting a Barbarous Thorn Shield as your second shield. A pierce shield is quite nice to have when dealing with, say, T3 Toxigels or giant lichen colonies, and the sword damage bonus is the icing on the cake.

"fire breathing slags"

Fire breath is not a problem, its more the swipes.

The swipes are not a problem either with recent derp patch.

You'll want either a Volcanic Plate Shield or owlite, because elemental/norm/fire/stun are the biggest parts of the Vanaduke encounter, and now with nerfs, FSC as a whole.

And I wouldn't go volcanic plate, because it isn't that great in non-fire themed places other than FSC - For shields, I would shoot for:

1. Owlite for elemental defense + FSC
2. Barbarous Thorn Shield for pierce defense if swordsman
2A. Royal Jelly Shield for pierce defense if non-swordsman (it retains the stun that ironmight has, but loses normal which is not the biggest issue of piercing attacks)
3. Crest of Almire for shadow defense
4. Ancient Plate Shield for gremlin levels (Normal and stun, both part of gremlins).

And for shadow lairs, scrap up whatever crap is necessary for them. SL do not matter and aren't enjoyable due to wierd rewards and cost.

If you are interested in getting a newer-non owl shield and do not have one of those 4, then you could shoot for those which will be more necessary once OOO has added more diverse content.

Or go darkfang shield if you are dying for a new look elemental def. shield: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Darkfang_Shield

Thanks guys for all the input, but I really only needed to know how the shield holds up against fire breath from slags lol. I was just curious how long it takes to break the shield just from a slag breathing fire onto it :D

Meh, most shields can hold up

Meh, most shields can hold up to it. My 4* owlite and snarby both does, with the snarby taking a noticeable amount of damage.
