Considering a utility gun for devilites and other... unholy beasts

As a bomber, devilites tend to be annoying... They like to jump out bombing fuse radiuses, and bomber gear's lack of shadow defense means getting shreded.

They like to dodge RSS shots, and as I said, like to jump out of bomb radii in general.

Tack on the occasional greavers, trojans, and kat ghosts, and I tend to be in for a couple massive headaches and energy revives.

I have a static capacitor, so kat ghosts tend to be a much easier fight.

But fiends are still a nuisance. Especially devilites.

I've narrowed down my utility gun choices to two lines:

Blitz Needle Line: I already have an autogun. The massive spray involved in this line reminds me of FPS's where I sprayed with my SMG's to kill that enemy that won't die. (Odd connection no?) It seems to be able to deal massive amounts of quick damage, and will probably become useful when I get around to becoming T3 and heading into Vanaduke's lair.

Callahan Line: Piercing, and devilites refuse to dodge the weapon. I feel like I could kite and shield at range if I had this weapon, and knock down some of the more annoying enemies (especially overtimers...).

I thought I'd just ask the forum's general opinion on which piercing line I should pick as a utility piercing weapon alongside my bombing gear.

Utility weapon...?

Get the Callahan then. If you miss a Blitz spray, you'll pay for it hard.

I'd go for the Callahan

I'd go for the Callahan because you want to kill fiends and not die, the autogun's standstill puts you in a more vulnerable position rather than a quick shot run a little and throw down another.

Before going too far, have you tried the DBB against devilites? Even with just the 4* version I've found the radius more than sufficient that they rarely dodge away from it. Plus with the knockdown, once you hit them with the first blast they're basically immobilized until they die.

Well...

Thing is... after I beat snarby I went... "What the ^&^% why is this boss so frickin easy with so little payout."

So here I am without the spine cone line cause of laziness and cause I like murdering that Royal Jelly. (Die. Die by my toxic vaporizer. Muhahahaha!)

I also talked to Fallout some time back and was told that since I already have investment in the Nitronome Blast Lines, DBB Line is not a major requirement.

All that aside, I've noticed a Devilite within blast radius of any bomb will jump away, regardless of situation. I'm thinking if I had either a spray gun or a Callahan Line Gun I could just shoot Devilites from afar and evade sticky situations. (Plate Shield is bad for shadow resist... So is Demo Gear...)

Have you considered Argent

Have you considered Argent Peacemaker or Polaris? Both of those guns are more versatile and more powerful than Callahan, and can deal with the problem monsters you mentioned.

Ick...

I'm unsure about AP cause of all the people saying it could be changed into a pure elemental... That's great and all, but that reduces its anti-fiend efficiency.

Polaris means regrinding Roar Twin (Which would piss me way off since I've had enough of grinding those twins after getting the bomb I need for the Voltaic Tempest Line.) And I have a bit of a distaste when it comes to Polaris line due to its knockback. (Makes aiming difficult...)

And for all its worth, I'd honestly just go with the Nova Driver Line if I needed something elemental. (Which I certainly do not thanks to my static capacitor.)

Problem with Callahan is you

Problem with Callahan is you would probably only use it for Devilites and Greavers. Your bombs do a better job of cleaning up everything else. You can still take it if you really need to deal with those specific threats, though.

Blitz Needle is not a good utility gun. It's my weapon of choice but I still wouldn't recommend it to non-gunners. It's quite difficult to use against combinations of fiends, especially without gun ASI. It's also even less versatile than Callahan, though it is much more powerful and can be used on Vanaduke.

I would really advise you to

I would really advise you to reconsider DBB. It's really the bomb of choice for everything weak to piercing, and it's also party friendly, so you can use it on piercing neutral targets without getting kicked, for the same damage than nitronome.

Overall, piercing gun are the least powerful piercing weapons (letting aside FSC), because Blitz is very dangerous and Callahan doesn't have that much punch (especially if you don't have a gunner loadout).

If you really don't want to use a DBB, you should also consider a piercing sword. A lot of people feel they are the most single OP weapon in the game for a reason.

Argent Peacemaker FTW

The AP has extremely fast bullets so fiends can rarely dodge attacks. It also has the highest clip size so there is some room for a missed bullet.

hmm

This might sound a bit wierd, but i really recommend the Valiance (5* blaster)
It has a really fast bullet speed, 3 shot clip and it deals slight knockback with each shot, it will deal less damage then a blitz/callahan, but its a really good utility gun. Its the only gun i use for my bomber set.

But if you only want to choose between blitz and callahan, i suggest the callahan because its the safer option.

The Polaris can be spammed

The Polaris can be spammed into a group of devilites and kats alike and rip them apart without you noticing

I recommend Polaris for big groups of devilites / overtimers

Callahan for smaller groups

Valkyrie Armor

If you still intend to bomb Devilites, may i recommend the Valkyrie armor set, it has shadow damage resistance and increases damage against Fiends.

You say you're a

You say you're a bomber?

Shivermist+Blitz needle.... freeze, charge and kill. Set up the bomb before hand, or place it asap. Callahan is a good option as well, I'd consider making the 3* magnus and trying it out if I were you. See for yourself.

Between Callahan and Blitz...

Callahan is safer to use per shot, but overall, the DPS is worse than Blitz.

The Blitz line's charge attack is not only ultra powerful, but pulls a stun effect similar to the Callahan's normal shot, but its normal shots have extreme range that you can use to send devilites dodging.

I have a CTR:Med Blitz and almost exclusively use its charge. You have to pretty much use it ASAP and kill as many as you can though :x
It's my preference to use Blitz, but after writing that, I think Blitz is probably better for killing Trojans or a small group instantly while Callahan's more of a kiting gun.

"I'd consider making the 3*

"I'd consider making the 3* magnus and trying it out if I were you. See for yourself."

And never compare a 3* magnus to your 5* or 4* needle might I add.

"Callahan is safer"

This. There is a point that you need to stop and not think about DPS as a gunner, and this is one of those times.

1. The game is going to get harder, it won't be derp forever :3
2. The game tends to give you more than small groups to kill.

For big groups of devilites, you would want to use Polaris > Callahan or Argent Peacemaker > Blitz out of only those guns.

But it sounds like you are going after a sidearm. Blitz needle is not a sidearm unless you are talking about FSC.

I would definately go Polaris if devilites are your only issue. Not only does it work great on whatever group of devilite, it is amazing on gun puppies, also something you might not like to deal with as a bomber? Though I am no bomber, maybe you have somethin special that works better.
