There needs to be about a 5 minute period between when i log on, and when my friends/guildies are told that i'm online. As it is, players are notified someone has came online the second the logging in player clicks to log in.

I don't know how others feel about this, but i absolutely HATE it that by the time i log in, i have 3 people already whispering me and 2-5 invites to dungeons pop up. If there was a 5 minute grace period when want to quietly craft with my ME or check the time left on the featured auctions or CE prices, i wouldn't have to snub friends/guildies or spend 5 minutes telling 10 people that 'no i'm not playing, sorry i don't have time to talk, etc etc etc'. It's very un-player-friendly. Therefore, i suggest the game giving me a few minutes online before it announces to the whole world that i'm open for whispers and invites.

Thanks guys.

Or...

You could just have an "appear offline" option. Just thinking.

Yes sev but..

appear offline isn't a good idea, because people like me would abuse it and NEVER appear online. :D
So a grace period was kinda a compromise lol.

The unfortunate downside of having friends in an online game is that occasionally you have to interact with them.

I really wouldn't think you

I really wouldn't think you could just appear offline when you felt like it would be bad.
If you could set options like "Offline to guild" and "Offline to friends" I really would like that.
If you don't feel like getting a billion invites, you shouldn't, at least in my opinion.

Point made, Vivix.

i tend to agree with pawn (and others)

I too would like a short grace period to log on and log off, for a myriad of reasons. One such example, i just want to check and see if new featured auctions are up. But i am a guild master, and i get bombarded with stuff that "needs my attention!" Yet, i'm at home for a 5 minute break from work, i don't have time to address any pressing issues, and its all i can do to force in a min to check and see..whatever i'm checking on.

-did i win that lockbox? new featured auction up? did my ce bid go through, or do i need to adjust it? whatever?--

In these cases, a 4-5 min grace period would allow me the opportunity to do my business, get in and get it without being distracted, called upon, or giving the appearance i am simply ignoring friends. And it'd be good for them too, as friends wouldn't think i was too good to deal with them, nor would they send me an instant message that i never even see, b/c tradechat is going by too quick and clears the board.

why hide status would be bad:
It would not solve the problem, at least not efficiently, as i'd have to "appear offline" before every time i logged out, or i'd log in with the same problem. This would now require me to micromanage my offline status endlessly. As a result, out of laziness, many people would just always appear offline. This would indirectly remove the personal connection and community of the game, which is arguably the most important feature and biggest draw the game has to offer. Sure it'd technically solver the problem, but much less efficiently than a "5 minute grace period "checkbox that i could leave checked.

I've always held the opinion that hiding your online status is being sneaky. I don't tend to enjoy the company of sneaky people, and I'll generally just stop acknowledging people that do use those features in other games that I play online. I hold the opinion that if you're in a position where it's more convenient to hide from people than it is to acknowledge them, you're probably doing something incorrectly. Using your example, being bombarded with guildies who require your undivided attention right now is more indicative of a management issue than anything else. If your managers are the problem, fire them - they're not doing their jobs correctly.

Of course, that's simply my view on things - I could be 100% incorrect!

Gmail has an invisibility feature

tbh I don't see why it shouldn't be implemented into SK
