Spiral Knights lags.

Nothing else I do on compy lags.

This lag spike is the same duration every time it happens and it seems to lag for about 2 seconds, then it shows up 1 minute later, then the lag spike happens again and lasts for 2 seconds, then shows up 1 minute later.

I use Steam.

Will not using Steam fix this lag?

Is there a possible dumbed down answer on how to fix this?

I am unable to even play this game right now because of wierd SK-only lag. It's a small bit of lag, but I refuse to play this game with that big of a game changer. I just died in a deconstruction level the second I left the thing because of a lag spike.

Your technically challenged friend,

If that's the only thing that

If that's the only thing that lags then it's probably an internet problem
Go to www.pingtest.net
Connect to Virginia or Ireland depending on which server you use.
If you get a bad score you may need to contact you internet provider or switch to a better internet.

"Lag" is an ambiguous term

"Lag" is an ambiguous term that can refer to either graphical lag or network lag. Graphical lag is characterised by everything on the screen, including stationary objects and the user interface, refreshing slowly. Network lag is characterised by the erratic movement of objects only controlled by players or the server. Network lag generally doesn't cause graphical lag.

Which type of lag are you experiencing?

except ui menus, ofcourse

all the ui menus are dependent on the game servers responding with the data for them... slow servers/ping/etc = ui lag

[edit] especially during peak hours... try the token trader or auction house. [/edit]

Ijustgotrippedoff, that's

Ijustgotrippedoff, that's simply false. The whole screen would not stutter (like is shown in the video I linked to in my previous post) if you were experiencing network lag; some of the GUI elements would simply be outdated by a few seconds at most. There are rare exceptions to this rule (for example, Super Smash Bros. Brawl), but they don't apply to Spiral Knights.

ui lag

some UI (menus/etc) are dependant on network+internet. All of the data that fills those panels (auction listings, items, etc) are populated from the servers databases... if they are really busy (or overloaded), or you have some other network issue, they will lag because after you click the npc/auctionhouse/etc, your request for data has to go to the game server, in turn, the server has to fetch the data from a database, the data then has to make it all the way back to your game client, before it can be shown on screen. please do some research before discrediting the information someone else gives.

btw, O.P. never said his game was stuttering like the video you posted.

What if you run Spiral

What if you run Spiral Knights in windowed mode and open Task Manager alongside it? If you switch to the Resources tab, you should see one of four things:

RAM usage skyrockets every lagspike
CPU usage skyrockets every lagspike
Both CPU and RAM usage skyrockets every lagspike
Neither CPU nor RAM usage skyrockets every lagspike

That would help diagnose the problem and possibly get this thread back to fixing your problem instead of how network lag affects the GUI.

Pingtest connecting to

Pingtest connecting to virginia told me that my internet works well, but some online games will not run optimally. I am guessing that is where my issue is.

Now, I'll get to working on solving this hopefully
