I have done all the steps in the support thread before posting, so please don't suggest anything that is there.

Here is a screen capture of both problems:

I'm getting a black screen on Spiral Knights everytime I start the game. It sometimes manages to show the knights before turning black. All characters in text appear corrupted when they appear at all. The screencapture shows the configuration window displayed when hitting the escape key. I'm running teh game on steam.

Black Screen and unable to login(possibly due to steam update)

Ugh, steam just had a update and I am having similar problems, my text works but it will not recognize that steam is active, steam will crash most of the time leaving me with the black screen and if it does not crash it will not give me the option to login through steam. I have even tried logging in through the websites steam option but that does not work either.

Error(possibly due to steam update)

I forgot to mention that I can listen to the music of the logon and select knight screen, but no matter where I click or what key I press nothing happens and the music doesn't change. Except for the report bug box and the options pop up showing up with the proper keys.

Here is a screencapture of the login when it does show up...http://i42.tinypic.com/54xa1t.png The page turns black after the steam account is validated and it logs in.

Netbook right? Follow the

Netbook right? Follow the steps from here in the wiki. The problem you are having is traditionally related to an outdated version of your graphics drivers. You'll need to make sure you're running the most up to date drivers from Intel's site to have any chance of the game running properly.

If updating your drivers as

If updating your drivers as Dogrock said you should doesn't work (even though there's a 95% chance of that being the problem), could you try playing the game from the main website? Steam's been rather buggy lately.
