i.e. Could I offset a suit/helm with a weakness to Fire (such as the Mad Bomber gear) by equipping a shield with a Fire resistance (i.e. Owlite Shield/Crest of Almire)
Do Shield status resistances apply to me or the shield?

The shield status do not
The shield status do not apply to you. They only indicate if the shield will last longer against that status. So the Owlite Shield can take more fire based hits before breaking, but if you do get hit it doesn't help you at all.
