In light of the Twitter/Facebook events during Halloween and Valentines Day, I would like to make a(nother) formal suggestion for in-game contests/events/giveaways. I understand there are certain advantages to Twitter (people at work/school can join in, it's much easier to update and control, etc) but I think it would be more "community-forming" to also do contests in-game. Besides, the code-entering giveaways require players to be in-game anyway, so in practice the majority of the Twitter events have not been extremely inclusive, either.
I'm not going into specifics for in-game events right now since I'm not sure what is actually possible, but I would like to generally suggest more skill-based or creativity contests with prizes that reflect the difficulty of the contest, i.e. lower valued accessories for giveaways and higher valued accessories, trinket slots, mist tanks, or heat amps for fan-input contests. That way, less people would be unhappy with being unable to log on to the game to snag some wings or unable to submit a code fast enough because their internet connection is slow. Maybe there is a good reason for simply handing out higher value items that I don't see, but just in my personal case, I would be happier with losing wings or a tabard/chapeau to someone more skilled than I am (or just in a random draw) than to someone who simply has a better internet connection.
I agree with you. No much to say.
