Is Sun Java 6 set as your default Java? I don't think Spiral Knights works with OpenJDK or IcedTea. Which distro are you running?

Poking Around

Yeah i think it is... however I've been able to do a bit of fiddling around.. seems I can get the game working just fine if I execute the game thru the spiral knights website.. for some reason the hard drive installed executable doesn't work lol.. but thanks for the help ^^

SK works fine

SK works fine with
icedtea-web 1.1.4-2
openjdk6 6.b24_1.11.1-1

Also I experienced no problems for months with many versions in between.
The downloaded version does work too. Look into your log files (there are two different ones in the game directory)... some months ago I had to fix something, but I don't remember what *hmmm* symlink a library somewhere or something...

Ooh, I think I may have it.

Ooh, I think I may have it. Are you installing it from the downloadable spiral-install.bin file or from the browser? The browser version might be installing Spiral Knights using the IcedTea browser plug-in. If you download the binaries, you can choose which version of Java to use to install the game.

But then this is on the assumption the IcedTea browser plug-in doesn't work without a browser running.

Found the problem :p

Mmm I did some more testing and strangely enuff it wasn't the java plugin at all xD.. turns out that when I installed the bin file the game somehow made all the game files read only and also tell the computer that I'm not the computer owner and hence I'm not allowed to rewrite the files permission {and yes I'm am logged in the computer owner and can delete/renaming any file on the computer}
I was able to get around this by copying the game files, renaming the old read only spiral files and renaming the new copy {which I had access to :p} to spiral, also was able to download a non read only executable after playing the game thru the web browser and now the game works fine.. although.. I'm now stuck with 2 extra version of the game named A and B that I can't delete them cause I don't have the permission xD
Needless to say.. it's a bit scary that spiral knights can install game files I can't touch. but I blame gremlins for that :p

Have you tried opening a root

Have you tried opening a root terminal and using "rm /home/your username/A" or starting Nautilus/Thunar/Konqueror/PCmanFM with root privileges?
