I'm not sure if this can be fixed or at least fixed easily but here it is.

Background:
My main character is in my Steam account. I go to school and use our public site computers (computer labs) to come and play SK. However, since we are restricted users and have no administrative access, we cannot install Steam. However, as a java based game, the web client (aka the one you download from the web) can be downloaded and run. As a known work around, we are able to log in to Steam via the Web Session Game Login via the Facebook button.

Bug:
However, as the client realizes that I am logged into a steam account, it will try to load the external commands with Steam while it does not exist. The game freezes up and crashes.

So, this used to only affected Energy Depot but now it affects the loading of the Expansion Missions as it will try to load something related to Steam and buying stuff which causes a break in the programing.

This is a bump in this issue to see if we can get some acknowledgment or a fix of some sort that applies to the standalone client. I know that is a work around a login method that isn't officially supported or endorsed though it is a bug that crashes the client.

To reproduce:
1- Exit Steam
2- Log in the Spiral Knights forums
3- Install Spiral Knights' standalone launcher from here: http://www.spiralknights.com/play.xhtml
4- After the game has launched, click the button to login with Facebook
4.5- If you didn't log in the Spiral Knights forums it will take you to the login page, choose to login with Steam
5- You should now successfully be logged in Spiral Knights
6- Click either the Energy Depot or the new Expansion Missions (I haven't bought a pack yet.)

Thank you for your time and feel free to reply with what you think.

This seams to only affect you

This seams to only affect you if you have not bought the expansion. I own the expansion (bought through Steam) and can navigate the expansion mission and start/join just fine. I don't see a huge issue here because energy can still be bought here on the web site, along with the expansion. The only thing that cant be done is buying ce with cr, but surely users in your situation could do that at home, and as for us linux users we do have wine.

Edit: Found a additional crash when starting a tier 1 party.
Linux users can workaround this by editing ~/.java/.userPrefs/projectx/prefs.xml
Find the key "music_gain", below that line add a new key for "offer_steam_invites" with the value "false".

Windows users will need to edit that key to be false in the registry using regedit, or add it if it does not exist, the key SHOULD be in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\projectx".

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply first and second, sorry for the bump from page 3.

Seems like they patched the Expansion mission bit by not having it auto open.

Truthfully, as you say, I can just go back home to do the energy stuff. I just find it really funny that I often forget and push the "Instant Crash Button(tm)" when I'm out and about.

Thanks for the reply again and I'll maybe see you in game.
