Hi all!

I don't know if it already known or not (or if it's just me), but I've many connection problems lately.
Sometimes I need to press the logon button 5 times or more to actually login. I keep getting the message "Either there is a temporary network outage or the server is not yet fully operational".
And sometimes I automatically logout when I'm just walking around in Haven, or when SK is loading (in this case I get a black screen first). Then I need to login again before I can continue.
Strangely enough I don't lose connection when I'm actually in the clockworks (lucky me...).

Now I don't know how long this is going on, but it has been for the last 3 days. Before that I haven't logged in for a couple of weeks.
And I know my computer doesn't lose connection to the internet, as I've been on Mumble with some friends and it didn't disconnect there.

So is it just me or is someone else experiencing this as well?

Grtzz!!

Have you tried configuring

Have you tried configuring Java to connect drirectly instead of with your browser's settings?

Thanks for your reply.I

Thanks for your reply.
I tried, but it doesn't change a thing :(
First time I started SK again with the new setting, the same error appears.

I'm connecting to the EU server, but changing it to US doesn't help either.
Maybe I should note that I'm using Steam? Is it possible that Valve's servers are the problem?

Or... well... let me update Java to 6u31, I figured out I'm using u27. I'll let you know if that worked.

EDIT: Nope, didn't work at all... still not being able to login sometimes and getting disconnected at the loading screen (first a black screen again...)

See what you're ping results

See what you're ping results are via http://www.pingtest.net/ - this was recommended in some of the older threads.

Try connecting to either Ashburn, VA (US), or any of the 2 Ireland points (EU) - they may not be the exact locations of SK's servers but will at least give you a rough idea on how stable your connection is to those servers. Be mindful of packet loss aside from ping times.

Also, the Steam version of SK has it's own outdated version of Java bundled with it. Until Valve, or OOO (whoever should really act on it) updates the bundled Java then updating your system's Java carries no effect. There are a number of threads in the forum that explain how to overwrite and update the version of Java that's bundled with SK steam version, you may want to have a look at them.

Tried to ping to those

Tried to ping to those servers, but didn't get any unexpected results.
0% packet loss and the ping was not extremely high despite the distance.
But the connection problems are totally random, so it's hard to ping at the exact moment when SK fails to connect.

And I didn't know SK uses a bundled Java. And I don't see a reason why as well... it's not something uncommon on PCs (although I would uninstall it directly if it wasn't so popular... Java always gives GUI problems, like not updating, missing controls... (even a reinstall of my whole PC didn't solve it) but that's only for programs that uses the built in GUI renderer, SK doesn't use that).
Anyway, I've updated SK's bundled Java... but it didn't help.

I'll be testing SK on my laptop when I have time. On the same network as well (home).
If I get connection problems as well, I'll try to connect from my university to see if I get any problems there. If not, then it's definitely something on my computer. If I get connection problems at home only, then it's my router/modem or my ISP... (which isn't the first time).
Though testing that will take a few days to a few weeks.

And oh... totally offtopic on my own topic... but has someone noticed the Steam overlay is a bit blurry? Other games are working fine though.

The version if Spiral Knights you can download doesn't come packaged with Java, only the Steam version does.

I've been having a few disconnects too after not having any problems whatsoever in the past. I suspect the mission system did something to the way OOO's server handles connections or the way the client handles its own connection.

Thanks for clearing that

Thanks for clearing that up.

Glad I'm not the only one having problems. And I just figured out that my laptop is having problems as well. So it's definitely not computer related. I will try to login when I'm at my university, see if that will work or not. If that won't work, then there's something wrong with the servers and/or clients.
(Here I got stuck when I got disconnected after finishing a mission. SK doesn't respond to mouse input, only enter to try to log in again. This may be a rare problem, but OOO need to fix this window :P it's annoying to hear 2 different music tracks and not being able to use the mouse.)

What, however, is computer related, is my Steam overlay problem. It appears correctly on my laptop. Maybe I'll do a reinstall of SK some other time.

But, who or what is going to fix this problem? =)

Well... it's only when I have the problem stated in the screenshot. (EDIT: I see now the link failed... xD here)

After some (short) investigation, I got to the conclusion that I don't have any connection problems at my university. But eh... we got a connection speed of 200+ Mbps down AND up (only with cable though :( not Wi-Fi), and a very low ping. Nevertheless, I only tested twice, so I'm still not sure.

But... (and here it comes) I had some connection problems which I could relate with my ISP yesterday and today.
I couldn't reach my router/modem (and had therefore no internet)... I had to reset it multiple times to get it working and stable again...

Just some random question... I can't reach avisynth.org for some days/weeks now. Has anyone else this problem?
If it's only down for me, I need to contact my ISP about my unstable connection (wish me luck with that D: ).
Unfortunately UPC is the only ISP that provides a high speed connection here (and relatively unstable)... makes me wish we had fiber instead of cable... but I don't know how long it's going to take before it's available in my region...

I contacted my ISP today, and

I contacted my ISP today, and they said it's a known problem. The latest firmware of the modem (Thomsom TWG870U, v1.41) is giving some problems with some online games (like SK, WoW, etc.), FTP and IMAP. They promised this modem will get a firmware update soon, or we'll get a new modem shortly (how long that's going to take, I haven't a clue).

This is the first time I got some useful information from the helpdesk. Most of the time they ask, "are the cables connected properly?", etc...
Anyway, I wanted to let you know the current situation. So if anyone here is from the Netherlands and has UPC as ISP as well, now you know the problem (if you had any problems that is). Call UPC and explain the situation, only that way you'll be able to let them know you have problems (and most likely to get a new modem).
