Shield for IQ that could be useful elsewhere?

I'm looking to make a shield for the Ice Queen Shadow Lair for the few times I do it, since I've noticed my BTS doesn't hold up well, probably due to the lack of freeze resistance.

The one's I'm considering offer Normal/Piercing and some status resistances.

Royal Jelly Shield (Stun+Sleep)
Ironmight Plate Shield (Stun)
Aegis (Leaning away from this one due to lack of stun resistance, and we all know there's plenty of Lumbers in there :3)

I'd like to ragecraft until I land a Freeze High/Max, since these clearly have no inherent freeze resistance :P

Just wanted to know, which shield do you guys think would work best and/or see much use outside of IQ? I really don't care much for aesthetics by the way.

Thanks in advance :3

There are no status resist

There are no status resist UVs on shields as far as I know.
Edit: Yes, yes, I forgot. Sue me.

Heater

Yeah... I use a Heater Shield in the Ice Queen Shadow Lair.

The best resistance you can get is a shield that naturally comes with Piercing and Freeze, not via UV, but that doesn't exist. A shield with a Max Status UV is still rather weak. The difference might be additional 1-2 hits, if that. Unlike armors with a Max Status UV which is as good as most 5* armor status defenses. Playing careful and dodging is going to benefit much more than a shield UV.

Another note - a shield with pierce and no freeze is going to do about as well as a shield with freeze and no pierce. Shield defense is pretty simple like that. BTS is about as good as Heater Shield or Royal Jelly Shield, etc. in that Shadow Lair.

I prefer Heater every so slightly over BTS because it does well against the occasional Lumber smash I can't dodge.

At the moment a I would think

At the moment a I would think that Dread Skelly Shield would be a bit more useful then a Heater Shield, not for IQ (same here I think) but for other SL like GWW where it is awesome. Also, I would think Piercing would be more useful then Freeze as aren't there some enemies on IQ runs that deal Piercing, but not Freeze? Like Culture said Heater would be better for Silversaps.

What are you taking the most beating from?

I would think the way to go would be BTS for swordsmen and Royal Jelly Shield for everybody else (or Ironmight if that happens to be what you have). Isn't Jelly shield going to out preform BTS as it has more Piercing defense?

@Dukeplatypus: A quick glance

@Dukeplatypus: A quick glance at the AH would show you otherwise :/

@BSOD: Right now, all my 5* shields are: BTS, GoS, CoA. Of which only the BTS is well-suited for IQ. The thing is, I tend to get beat up equally by pretty much all the melee range monsters, while projectiles tend to be easier to dodge especially at range. Therefore, I figured Freeze would help out a bit.

I am mainly a swordsman, but I'd like to get a shield with Piercing and Freeze protection so I don't end up with a broken shield. I'd love to get a BTS with Freeze: High/Maximum, but those can't be ragecrafted so I'm out of luck :/ I don't mind sacrificing a Damage Med bonus for even a little more shield protection so I don't end up killed as often. I don't like being invited to runs and being the first one dead when the party goes down. It happened a lot the last time :/ Plus I'm getting a Skolver Cap (once I land a decent UV) soon, so the difference in damage will likely go unnoticed in terms of hits per kill.

I've been leaning towards the Royal Jelly Shield from the start due to its higher Piercing defense and Stun resistance, I just wanted to be sure it would be a good call.

@Culture: Didn't even consider the Heater Shield, I hadn't noticed it :3 Although lumbers did hit me occasionally, I found my shield often took more abuse from those jelly ground spikes that surround you (from 3-4 Jellies having your aggro), leaving you nowhere to run so you have to take the hit.

What armor are you running?

What armor are you running? If not full Skolver, then that cap might make a difference in how much damage you take after your shield pops.

I would speculate that the ultimate IQ shield would be a Jelly with Freeze Max. For whatever reason status resistance UV seems to be way more useful then defensive UV, so I think this would do better then a Heater or Dread with Piercing Max. Prepare to spend some serious time if using mist or $$$ if spending CE though. Personally I never really worried too much about Stun resistance as most Stun attacks are pretty easy to avoid most of the time.

I don't have a Jelly Shield though, so maybe it would be better if somebody that runs IQ with one weighed in (Working on my collection though: BTS, Dread Skelly Shield, Grey Owlite Shield, Heater Shield, Ancient Plate Shield, Blackened Crest, SS).

One other thought. If the wiki is correct, Ice Jellies tackle is Piercing/Freeze, but their thorn attack (I assume they mean the ground attack) is just Piercing (Vapor attack is pure Freeze). This would mean in the situation you just described the shield with the highest Piercing would help the most & Freeze would not matter (in this one case).

Well, in that case, the Royal

Well, in that case, the Royal Jelly Shield is the perfect choice since it's got higher Piercing defense. I just assumed the thorns were Pierce/Freeze. Either way, any freeze UV couldn't hurt since it'll help in shielding every other attack in IQ :P

Also, about the Skolver: My issue isn't the fact I'm taking more damage when my shield breaks, I understand why, that's a no-brainer :P The issue to me is the shield itself breaking. I'd like to be able to abuse the shield as much as I do my BTS there, and hopefully it'll last a bit longer so I don't have as many of those shield-less vulnerable situations which get me cornered and killed :( I'm just aiming to create an overall high-defense set for IQ.

And I'm in no rush, I'm rage-crafting Wolver caps on my alt, and needed something else to rage-craft while I've got an elevator pass on my main. Figured I'd go for something useful.

Thanks for the help guys, I have decided:
Royal Jelly Shield it is :D

Or you could just use an AoA

Or you could just use an AoA and not have to worry about pierce attacks at all
