I live in a mostly internet deprived county in england, UK (those of you who live here would know it as Norfolk) and yet normally my conection to SK servers is almost perfect. I never used to have a problem.... unless I was downloading something, anyway.
Recently, my internet speeds reduced from 145kb/sec download to 15kb/sec, which clearly was not enough to play on SK. Still, I gave it a shot, and connection strength flew from 3 bars to 1 and back again. I knew I couldn't play, but it was enough to sit and chat with friends in Haven, at least.
Now, my internet has finally been repaired by my ISP. And yet, oddly, my connection to SK servers has now been completely obliterated. I get a solid red bar, and nothing I do has recovered it. I'm not the best technical expert ever, but I know relatively what I'm doing, and I can't improve the connection. Logically, it should be exactly the same as back when everything worked fine, and definitely better than when I was down to 15kb/sec - yet now, it's worse than ever.
True, school holidays have arrived, but my problems expand much further than just peak time disconnections..
Thanks in advance for any ideas and help.
I run SK on both a Windows 7 64bit Home Premium laptop (AMD X2 Turion, 2.2Ghz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, Radeon HD 4330)
and my home PC (Windows Vista 32bit, AMD X4 Phenom 1.8Ghz, 6GB DDR2 (limit to 3GB use) GeForce GTX 460 SE 1GB)
so I can be sure hardware is by far not a problem. PC runs from ethernet and laptop from wifi.
Maybe that 'fix' blocked some ports with a firewall on the modem/router and your PC.
