Partial energy buying

Okay.
So.
this is a niche idea, but it's extremley convenient either way.
Say you're plundering the clockworks for a little extra crowns so you can buy energy.
Unfortunatley, at your last fragment of mist energy, you die, and have to revive. You spend some of your CE as a result.
Now, the next day. with a full ME tank, and after buying that energy, you STILL don't have enough to craft that item you need.
Solution?
Partial energy buying.
Instead of forking out (energy price here) for 100 energy, how about we do this, too?
You can buy a user-defined amount of energy, up to 100.
Now, using this new-fangled thing we call maths, we work out the price of that much energy... from the average market price. There's your downside.
and it might cost a bit extra.
I'm sure a lot of us would like a little bit of this.

Eh...

The issue with this is that you'd have to find someone who wants to sell exactly that amount of energy. Either that or sellers are able to specify that they'd like to sell x CE, and that amount would go onto the partial market. Then they could sell off bits of that energy as partial demands arise. If a partial partial transaction (does that make sense?) were to take place, though, there's only a small chance that both parties would end up satisfied (meaning the buyer gets all the energy he/she wants and the seller sells all the energy he/she wanted to sell).

I'm thinking the difficulty of implementing this isn't really worth the niche that it would affect. I admit that I've found myself in similar situations, but I just go shouting around Havens until I find someone willing to trade with me (without spamming, of course), and that works out fine.

Read it again: You can only

Read it again: You can only buy it at a fixed price depending on the market.

And yes, it is quite a niche market, and running around haven is a slow, but functional method.

Compensate

Instead of running off with matching numbers, they could implement a system where you sell/buy in groups.

For example, say you want 73CE for 65Cr/1CE. You post this request on an energy market where players who wish to sell may sell you as much CE as they want, capped at the maximum you request. Say one seller wishes to sell you 28 of the 73CE you want and agree with your price of 65Cr/1CE and someone else wishes to sell you the remaining 45CE. The one who created this purchase request takes a seat as the one who creates an auction does, waiting for their request to be fulfilled. Those who wish to sell can scroll through a list of prices with the Cr:CE ratio, maximum amount of CE requested, and the name of the character who requested the purchase visible.

Alternatively, give the sellers the seat in a similar manner to auction venders who post their products for other players to purchase. The salesman posts the amount of CE they wish to sell as the maximum amount to purchase and the price value for every CE as a single unit with the Cr:CE ratio visible.

Personally, I despise when people spam near the auction house how their >130% price of the energy market price is a great deal, only to be whispered how they are trying to take advantage of players who do not know about the existing energy market where players sell to each other.

Problem is...

The ce isn't coming from anywhere. You say the average market price, but there are probably a lot of offers on the market, so an 'average price' would be pretty hard to calculate.

In any case, the CE would have to come from a/few players who posted sell offers, and if the 'partial buy', even part of it, was deducted from their offer, they are now selling LESS than 100ce, which would cause a whole lot of complications that I do not care to explain.

To make this idea work, you'd need to create a whole new separate market system for 'flexible' ce sales, where people can post their energy offers at specific quantities at specific prices, and it's pretty much end up as a CE AH.

@OP:

Sorry if someone already said this, I admit to not reading the comments right now. I'm in a lil hurry.

I did read a portion of what Psychodestr-- er, Valkyrie said, and you'd need a whole new market. Imagine you're selling 100 CE, then all the sudden 78 gets bought. Now, you have to wait for someone to specifically buy exactly 22 CE. Uh...yeah right.

The other problem is that a portion of the 'average' price is not always a definite number.

For argument's sake, let's put in this hypothetical situation.

CE prices are 6,323:100.

Say you wanted to buy 10 CE. Wait, that's 632.3 crowns. How are you going to make that purchase?

The game would have to round up (likely) or down (less likely), and though it would only result in the loss or gain of a single crown, it just adds in more complexity for the programmers.

Valkyrie = Bluebrawler?

I know decimal values would derp up the prices. I thought I explained how to evade that but it was obviously too vague.

Instead of posting sales/purchase requests as a large amount they post their price the price in terms of 1CE:xCr as if they only want to buy a single unit rather than a hundred. The maximum request value is the full request posted and is taken off the board* when filled/consumed.

* Severage, I am implying a CE auction house. The one we have for regular items came from suggestions, we could have a CE tab added to it.

For every buyer, there must

For every buyer, there must be a seller. Even if you want to buy exactly 73 CE, it's not that likely that you'll find a seller looking to sell exactly 73 CE unless you're willing to pay above the market rate for CE. Why not just buy 100 CE and have 27 left over that you'll use sometime in the future?

@Luguiru:

You didn't read my post very well if you think Valkyrie is Bluebrawler. =P

I honestly don't see it as being very useful. It'll be very slow because of so many unique offers and requests.

Nay

Psycho-Valkyrie is my normal posting alt.

I use him during my general absence on the forums because of certain issues I care not to highlight.

And I was on the forums since like July last year.

So if I'm spamming useless stuff, it's either for a reason or I'm just messing with people.

And you just called me a derp. I offended.
