hello, Im fairly new to the game and wondering what gear path to go down because i've looked on the wiki and my currents armour(s) alchemy paths arent looking that great.
My current equipment is : Skelly mask, Drake scale mail, Owlite shield, Nightblade and Spine cone.
and i was thinking of going for dusker helm because that seems like a good path.

Anyone got any armour they would reccomend ?

offensive bonuses

In some sense, this game is more about offense than defense, because even the strongest defensive armor lets through tons of damage on Tier 3. So the conventional wisdom is to choose armor that gives you offensive bonuses that you care about.

There are two armor sets (Fallen and Chaos) that give bonuses to all of your weapons, four that give sword bonuses, five that give handgun bonuses, and four that give bomb bonuses. Strongly consider these. For example, if you plan on using swords for a while, then the Wolver lines are the answer.

Good choice

Most people pick a wolver path for their armor sets because the final forms (Vog Cub or Skolver) are very popular with fighting monsters as well as PvP.

When you reach ash tail, you are probably going to ask which one of the two would be good to get.

It's kind of like 50, 50 on which ever one you want because vog deals with speed which people want and skolver focuses on damage which is popular.

Just giving a head start.

Sword user?

Then Wolver line. No ifs or buts. Sad but true. On top of the sword bonuses, the focus of T2 is basically JK; piercing is perfect. You'll also want Vog when you hit FSC, so that's convenient.

Use Bristling Buckler line for your shield. If you find it breaking a lot even after upgrading, then also get an Owlite (for ele) and a Skelly shield (for shadow). Or learn not to have to block so much. (I'm pretty crappy at doing this, so I always use type-appropriate shields, even though I'd like the sword bonus.)

thanks for the advice

Alright, I'll probably go down the wolvar path then because i use my sword alot.
Although the mission line does give some standard armour recipes like cobalt to get me going at 3*

Don't use those recipes

unless you know you'll want those particular pieces of Cobalt gear as costume armour later. Cobalt is simply inferior to everything else, as it has no status resistances at all.

@derpules - that isn't true.

@derpules - that isn't true. You could go Chaos Set and get CTR Med + Dmg Med. Not a bad tradeoff compared to DMG VH or ASI VH if you like to use charge attacks. Most people won't because elemental isn't a common boss damage type (only the twins deal elemental outside of the DLC) and most people can't handle having the negative status resists.

@skyspanner

I wouldn't bother with any of the recipes the missions give you (with the exception of the blast bomb if you want to bomb). It is a waste of resources to craft them unless you plan on using them 5* for a specific reason. Even then, cobalt is easily replaced by wolver (and later skolver) gear.

Sure s/he could.

But what are the odds? You said it yourself--most people can't handle the negative resists. What makes you think the OP can? I sure can't, which is why I'll be running with just one Chaos piece and a crapton of UVs.
