What I mean is, which weapons in the game do you think are must haves? As in, not having x sword or y gun will make z (important level) much more difficult. So yeah.
What five weapons do you feel are the most essential?

Shivermist, since most of the
Shivermist, since most of the random groups I join are below average skill wise.
Voltedge, the shock comes in handy for stopping T3 Kats and Zombies cold on the first strike of the wave.
Polaris, wonderful for crowd control, pushing away that lumber thats going to pound that guys head in, and for stunlocking gun puppies.
Gran Faust, using its single swipe is great for crowds and makes mincemeat of menders.
Barbarous Thorn blade, for getting rid of devilites and quickly batting away greavers.
As an alternative to shivermist, Callahan. (Currently a Mega Magnus for me, soon to be upgraded tho). Fun to use against almost anything, and its damn funny to watch it shut up a howlitzer every time it tries to shoot.

DA, Shivermist and Blitz
DA, Shivermist and Blitz Needle (choose 1 between Shiver and BN) are must have for FSC.
A shadow weapon is a must have for RJP.
And a piercing sword is a must-have for any swordsman, for general use.
That makes 5. But really, it's situational.

Well.. Every single player should have Shivermist Bomb, and Blitz Needle. There are no exceptions to those 2 items.
Polaris is a life saver, so that has my vote for 3rd most important weapon.

I don't have shivermist, mostly because I have glacius, and because it's overused and I never needed it.

Maybe if every single player did only FSC (many don't). I rarely pull out my blitz outside of FSC.
Generally:
1. Something with elemental damage.
2. Something with piercing damage.
3. Something with shadow damage.
4. A gun so you don't have to throw pots.
5. Repeating 1-3 but with a different attack pattern.
For a swordsman:
1. An elemental Brandish. Combuster, Voltedge or Glacius.
2. A piercing blade. Barbarous Thorn Blade or Final Flourish.
3. A shadow blade. Gran Faust or Acheron.
4. A sidearm to keep things away, when you don't want to get close (e.g. low on HP, gun puppies, etc.). Polaris or Supernova.
5. Don't really need a fifth, but a FoV can be fun to use - and to kill Trojans and Slag Guards quickly.
For a bomber:
1. Haze bomb to deal DPS. Ash of Igni, Venom Veiler, Voltaic Tempest.
2. Shivermist Buster, the god of crowd control.
3. Piercing bomb. Radiant Sun Shard or Dark Briar Barrage.
4. Knockback bomb to keep mobs away from you. Nitronome.
5. A gun to handle gun puppies and breaking blocks and minerals. Elemental pulsar and alchemer lines for example.
Electron and Graviton can be fun in a party, but they are not necessary.
I haven't started to gun exclusively, but here's what I think:
1. Elemental gun. Elemental Alchemer, Argent Peacemaker or Pulsar.
2. Shadow gun. Umbra Driver or Sentenza.
3. Piercing gun. Callahan or Blitz Needle.
4. A piercing sword to kill fiends and trojans - with them sometimes you want a sword instead of a gun. Barbarous Thorn Blade or Final Flourish.
5. Argent Peacemaker (no shivermist user) or Blitz Needle (with shivermist user) for fighting Vanaduke.
