ok, yes, all the plate items are normal defense until 5 star, where it gains elemental or piercing with volcanic or ironmight, respectively.
so why does volcanic plate shield just stay normal defense? its the only plate thing that does.

No. I don't agree with this. Why elemental defense? We already have the Owlite for elemental and fire.
If Volcanic Plate goes to elemental, there will be no more pure normal 5* defensive gear left. (with the exception of the Ancient Plate, that's a boss reward, and the Shell, that doesn't have a matching armour set)
The point of a Normal+Health shield/armour is to be able to tank melee damage, and still be fairly decent in any theme. Volcanic Plate has that plus fire defense, so it has a slight advantage in said levels. It's like a specialised form of Ancient Plate. Switching out some normal defense/total health for elemental defense would ruin the versatility of the set. It's supposed to be armour for soaking up melee damage, in the fray. Leave elemental, shadow and piercing defense for those scaredy kats running around with guns who have a parylizing fear of projectiles.
For the record, I'm a hybrid, and I employ different armour and weapons so some of this paragraph is poking fun at stuff that I do. It's not intended to be offensive.
Sure, the plate lines need a buff. But this isn't the way to do it.

Hmm, yes this is very odd. Also, why does the VPS look nothing like VPM? It doesn't visually match the set at all, despite the icons being the same.

Which virtually means that you don't have a "right" to play the game, it's a privalage, your knight isn't "yours" and neither is the VPS you claim that is "yours".
OOO may modify game content at any point in time without requiring "your say" because it's not "your game or your equipment".
So stop crying about "your equipment being buffed or nerfed" and think up a better argument.

Is much better than you think for Vanaduke. It outlasts a Crest of Almire any day of the week against Vanaduke himself, and is only slightly less useful against shadow-damaging enemies (Its massive health makes up for the lack of Shadow Defence).
It's fine the way it is. The plate armor sets need changes, but the shield is pretty great honestly.

yeah, i love the shield. was my main shield for like 7-8 months.

Since it has fire defense to balance against Ironmight it would have to have at least a couple bars of element less than Ironmight has in pierce, though I agree the shield ought to have some element defense on it. Ironmight set has normal with pierce, Volcanic set excluding the shield has normal with element; Ancient is its own set outside the Plate lines in spite of the name.
