As much as I'd like to sympathize with you, I always saw them as regular tokens - you don't collect if you don't actually walk up to it.
Of course, I'm not saying it would be bad if they'd just go to you automagically. You go through the effort of beating the boss, and sometimes you don't feel like waiting for the thing to stop spinning so you can collect it.

The most annoying thing is
The most annoying thing is that you have to wait till the silly animation ends (it goes up, spins, blablasblalba and then finally falss down) and after that you are able to collect it, and then there is waiting for some silly animation again and finally you get tokens.

This has actually happened to me before...
I stood on the coin for like 10 seconds. I figured it was long enough and kept walking. The moment I touched the elevator, I realized...there was no white flash.
Sometimes it picks it up when you touch it, sometimes it sits there and you have to walk off of it and back on to get it, then it does its spin "blasablsbals" thing and the screen flashes.

The trick to getting the
The trick to getting the tokens is catching the token on the way down. Helps you get a better grip on the bottom of it so that you can collect it easier.
Also, didn't Severage "Leave"?

@OP : I don't see whats the big deal, its a neat little animation and kinda refreshing after a boss battle. I don't mind the wait at all.

The amount of times the highest-gear person has just run under the token after killing the RJ, and the amount of times I've picked it back up, has stopped me complaining about this. True, it's a little annoying that you have to stand back a little, but I've half a mind, when I have 20 tokens, to just run around it and laugh at him/her.
