As the title says, this is a discussion of the ancient plate set.

It's a relatively expensive end game set, unique in its health bonus.
However, there are some drawbacks to it that keeps people from using it.

What do you guys think about the ancient plate set?

Useless as a set. Somewhat usable in combination with other armors.

After you get Crest and FoV.

After you get Crest and FoV. It' may be worth keeping for the fun aspect of it if you do Vana alot and have extra tokens. It's nothing to prioritize and pretty much any other armor is more effective. You could NPC for 30k so if you think the price of a common accessory is more important to you sell it. I keep a set to play with. It's fun in lockdown as a shield with heart trinkets if you have a striker buddy. It's fun in T1 and T2 with a swiftstrike shield , to move (slowly :D)through the not caring about health. You can give your self a challenge in T3 with it :/. You could combine armors you are leveling without normal def- this is probably it's best aspect. You could probably do OK in unknown passage with it- though I'm not gonna try it. Even if it didn't have the -move and -asi ( and OOO should of made that dispel when it's a set when it was 'endgame armor') it would still be bad for T3 with out special defense or bonuses (besides stun).

Underpowered Lets look at

Underpowered

Lets look at things in terms of trinkets/standard bonuses

1 heart trinket = +6
1 damage/whatever trinket = +2

2 pieces of ancient = +6 over other sets (-2 stage of MSI (worth 2 weapon atributes ea; as merc mail = 1, this is the standard increase from armor) and -2 asi (worth another 2 ea))

Far too much to give up for only one trinket worth of health.

Underpowered, but

In terms of the amount of resources spent, boss token items are better than their regular equivalents, since you get an item for no crown/energy cost in addition to whatever resources you gain from grinding the dungeon. This is why we see more Snarble Barbs than Flourishes, for instance. Vanaduke's stuff in particular is a crazy set of deals, despite the hefty token cost, since you get a 5* item without the enormous crown/energy/heat commitment, plus the loot you get from doing a fun and lucrative dungeon anyway.

That said, the armor isn't something I'd ever use, though I do use the shield (and my FoV) occasionally. Fehzor hit the nail pretty squarely on the head: a single trinket's worth of extra health doesn't make up for the huge speed penalties, not to mention the lack of special defense.

only 2 uses for it

- Costume (it looks great, I'll give it that)

- Vendor (30k cr for free)

The best use for it is that if you're a Gunner, and you're never going to use anything ever then swiftstrike, you can use it as your 5* shield to advance to 5* missions.
Hahaha, win!

Terrible. Next question. Thread -> Gravyard.

Only useful for the 30k cr per piece trade in value.

It used to be a fun set to dick around with in T3 deconstruction zones as thwackers were one of the few enemies that still dealt pure normal damage in T3. That changed after the mission update when they started doing elemental damage.

Nowadays it's mostly used in conjunction with sets that don't offer normal resist such as dragon scale. A single piece of Ancient plate offers 95% of the normal resist a set of full vog cub does, so it's contribution is on par with a similar mixed set e.g. Skolver+snarby.

Yeah, but it nerfs your movement speed and your ASI. Not worth it. Why in cradle would you do that when you could be using armor that provides buffs?

Useless.

If not for the MS hit, bombers and some gunners could use it well. With the MS hit, I can't imagine any knight really benefiting from it.

I think the solution to

I think the solution to health problems is to kill something faster than it can hurt you.
Slain enemies are incapable of harming you, furthermore they drop hearts! and furtherfurthermore
killing things faster makes stages go faster!
You can't go wrong!!
