I think that there should be a system where your weapon needs heat (which is currently active) but is recorded in numbers. example, i have my DA and it needs 100 heat to go from level 9 to 10, and i get 90 at the end of a run. then i would only need 10 more heat to get it to level 10. This ties in with my other idea, a heat bank. each knight has a heat bank, which will gather heat, if at the end of a level is not added to an item. example, my items are all level 10 and i have 0 heat in my bank. if i got 50 at the end of a run, 50 would go to my bank, because none of my items need it. The heat bank would be used to heat new items with heat you previously got. say i needed to get my avenger to level 10 after newly crafting it, but i didn't want to go on a bunch of runs. I would resort to my heat bank which would have heat i had gained from previous runs where i didn't need heat. the heat bank would be like a storage room for unused heat, that could be used to store heat for future items that need it so to speak, it wouldn't be "wasted".

Get a Blackened Crest and upgrade it immediately without having to toil around trying to heat up the piece of crap. Seems legit.
Seriously though, the way things are now, people might spend more energy to upgrade their equipment. Wasted heat = increased number of runs in the future = more energy spent = more money in OOO's pockets. Alright so not everyone uses purchased energy to do runs and get heat, but surely someone does, and that person is giving OOO more money when they do it. If that person could save heat from runs, that person wouldn't be spending that CE on running, and therefore that person wouldn't be bringing OOO profit.
Although this seems like a nice feature for players, we need to remember that OOO is a for-profit company that needs to pay its employees. They're already doing for us F2P people by giving us 100 energy a day, and I kind of doubt that they'll do something that has a chance to reduce the amount of cash they take in.
I think your first idea is... Okay. Could have been done better. Not so good. Er... No. Numbers don't go well with Spiral Knights. Like health. Personally, I like heat withought numbers.
For your second idea- I can't tell you how many times it's been suggested. People need to learn to use the search bar. Anyways, this is a bad idea that will never be used. Saving heat to use later? Way too overpowered. It's just not right.
