Hello Community,

I want to suggest a Challange system into Spiral Knights.

This will allow to do missions or clockwork explorations with a Handicap that can be set before the mission starts.

Handicaps could be
- permanent poision (in other words: you have only your starting Health without a chance for recovery)
- a star limitation for your equipment even on harder missions
- weapon prohibations (e.g. no swords/bombs/guns allowed)
- monsters get as stong as beeing in a 4 player group if you are actually alone (and if the group gets bigger the monster will be even stronger)

Rewards could be
- a new kind of torkens that can be exchanged for (new) recipes
- awesome costumes that are only obtainable by using these Handicaps
- Crowns/Heat of missions raise by xx%
- new achievments (doing tier 1/2/3/all tiers with a handicap)

What would you think about this idea?

If you had any further suggestions for Handicaps or rewards it would be cool =)

Apart from that... +1 to you suggestion... just figured I'd say there are many challenges you can either make for yourself... or have come up in the forums from time to time.

Monsters dont truly become stronger depending on amount of players, but they get more raw life, wich is just a time consuming nuissance.

In order to be considered challenging they need a real attack/defense/speed bonus.

umm

no that would be challenging but people would be pi$#@ that OOO didnt spend thier time on something more productive like new levels or balancing stuff.

this will also force everybody to do these challenges because the people who can do these easily will get alot more money and that would drive up ce like we saw when they released the vanaduke mission ( it originally gave 10-12 k cr a run) .

also spell check would be nice lol

This idea reminds me of the

This idea reminds me of the idols from Bastion. I like it for the most part, but the rewards should be tweaked a bit.

  1. The gear gotten from these recipes should either be worse than proto gear (for an even greater challenge), reskins of existing weapons, or awesome gear with limited usefulness and/or an extreme difficulty curve. At the very least, it shouldn't be more useful than other gear of the same star level. We don't want Lockdown to be dominated entirely by people using the gear gotten from handicaps, at least not because of the gear itself. Also, the recipes and the weapons themselves should be bound as soon as they are acquired, to prevent people who haven't used any handicaps from getting them.
  2. I have no problem with the costume rewards. This is just here so this list corresponds with the first three items in the OP's reward list.
  3. As Kive already said, increasing the number of crowns a player gets when they use handicaps would destroy the economy for new players (and anyone else not able/not willing to use the handicaps). Increased heat gain probably isn't a good idea either; gear can be heated pretty quickly as it is, and it might cut into heat amplifier sales (assuming anyone actually buy those). Instead, the handicaps should increase the amount of prestige gained at the end of any mission they are activated for, assuming the player is eligible for getting prestige from that mission.

Also, here are some new ideas for handicaps:

  • Curse Roulette - All but one of each player's weapons starts off cursed. Every 40 seconds or so, the uncursed weapon will become cursed and another cursed weapon will become uncursed. In addition, the curse will reapply itself every time the player switched weapons or cures the curse.
  • Damaging Hearts - Instead of healing players, hearts will instead damage players as much as they would normally heal them. If a player is shielded when walking over a heart, it will damage the shield instead. This option is incompatible with No Useful Items, as no hearts will appear when that option is on.
  • Enemy Attack & Defense Increased - Enemies have their attack and defense power increased, as if they were affected by both an alpha wolver's howl (or a battlepod's attack buff aura) and a swarm seed. To drive the point home, enemies will have the "Attack Up" and "Defense Up" notifications above their heads when they first appear.
  • Enemy Status Immunities - Enemies are immune to status effects caused by players. They are still affected by status effects caused by themselves or other enemies.
  • Flaming Vampire Run - The players have permanent mild fire, but all enemies drop hearts. If a player is inflicted with a stronger form of fire, the stronger fire will replace the weaker fire until it wears off. This probably would be available for certain missions only, as some stages wouldn't have enough enemies for players to stay alive. This option is incompatible with Damaging Hearts and No Useful Items, since they both prevent the player from healing with hearts.
  • No Reviving - Players cannot revive themselves or each other in any way. They will still be revived at the beginning of each stage, though.
  • No Useful Items - Hearts, heart boxes, heart pads, vitapods, and vials/pills will not appear in the clockworks. In order to avoid inflation, nothing will replace the pickups that the player would have normally gotten. The crowns, heat, materials, tokens, and gear that would normally appear will still do so. Also, any vendors that sell vitapods and vials will refuse to do business with the players as long as this option is active.
  • One-Hit Kills - Any player that takes any kind of damage immediately dies. If this option and Flaming Vampire Run are both active, the permanent fire will not instantly kill the player.
  • Permanent Stun - The players have permanent stun.
  • Reverse Monster Nerfs - All enemy nerfs (except ones that fixed issues with monsters being game-breakingly cheap) are undone. This may not be feasible if Three Rings didn't keep a backup of the enemies before the nerfs.

Thanx for the feed back

Thanx for your feed back.

I see that rewarding a Handicap with crowns may cause Market Problems. But i can not see how Heat can influence this. After all you need to get the Weapon and bound it to charge - but unbounding it will cost quite too much Energie. (Or did i leave anything out that makes it worth?)

@Skold-The-Drac
I do these challanges for myselfe to make a Mission I played a lot a bit more challanging and interesting or explain certain Tactics to newer Players like evading and using the Shield. But the Point is it is not noted anywhere; there is no difference between a Player who can just finish the Mission anyhow and a Player who gets through it easily.

@Kive
I am sorry for my spelling. English is not my native Language and I just got my English from School. But after all it is understandable what i write. (hopefully ;) )

@Zyborg
Thanx for your Post. I really liked reading it and hopefully some of your ideas will get realized.

It gave me also an additional Idea for Rewards:
There could be Epquipment that does not only has lower stats than Spiral Suit but has even negative (!) effects. I was thinking about a Mad Bomber set (maybe without the Boni) and with a negative Amor Level
-> wearing this Amor will cause you getting more Damage but grant Protection.
