this is my idea i hope you like it:
ok so i was thinking that they introduced a maze of passages ways at which if you went down the right passageway a nice treat was there but if you went down the wrong route then you would face a monster. obviously the mazes would have to be constantly be changing but there would not all need to be completely different just so that people didn't memorise the route. The further into the maze you get the harder the monsters/ bad surprises get but the more rewarding the prizes. once you die there are no revives. at the end of all of it all there is one amazing thing that is new and powerful. people cannot go in with their own weapons though they are armed only with proto things to make the whole thing harder and more to do with skills and tactics. i was thinking this maze(s) would be situated off the branch of the arcade that should have an entrance but doesn't and have another path onto the town square just before the steps.

Mazes would be...interesting.

Mazes would be...interesting. Though there are several problems with the way you described them.

1. Proto only: I can tell your not at Tier 3 yet. Proto weapons would take AGES to take down tier 3 monsters, tier 1 monsters wouldn't be a big deal. Tier 2? Still would take far to long. Proto ARMOUR only would work though.

2. "Amazing new and powerful thing at the end": What do you mean exactly by that? A new weapon? A new boss? Needs more info.

3. No revives: The problem with that is some people have lag, and if they die because of it they sometimes want to rage-revive to see the end.

4. Price: You didn't say if this costs anything or not. If it's free, then making ANY crowns from it would ruin the economy, because people could just farm it for free. It would have to cost SOMETHING.

Again, i'm not against the CONCEPT, just the application.

For a boss stratum?

How about using this for part of a boss stratum? It could be fun.
The entire level is a big square, divided into a grid. The entrance and lift would be in the center, with the lift blocked by four locked gates. The keys would be in the corners. The grid would have corridors five or six wide and intersect with each with gates marking off the intersections. The gates are rigged to a timing system and switches. Each intersection would always have exactly two walls open. The switches would have a system where shooting one might change the gates open or might not, depending on when you hit it. And the gates would go up and down randomly, except when the players can see them. Party button rooms would be scattered throughout the entire thing, with some system to prevent the players from skipping it. If you want to be more evil, the party button rooms may reset. (But the monsters would only drop hearts and vials.) Add the occasional shankle and you'd have a challenge for the players. Once the players finally finished, there would be treasure boxes by the lift.

I kinda like the idea It would be handy to get some weapons and armor instead of buying it or doing quest for it. But I also think that they shouldnt bind the items so you can trade and sell them.

This sounds to me like how far you get determines what you get. So it would be using proto gear to try to get as far from the start as possible. So at the start you would be fighting t1 enemies and as you got further away it would eventually get to t2 and if you were really good, you could get to t3. Of course, the problem is a) latency and b)giving OP weapons to rookies. perhaps a blackened crest type, with all the weapons you receive having to be upgraded in order to be good?

thanks for your comments, i have read through all of them and these are the changes i have made:
- everyone would wear proto armour and helm but the should have a modified weapon that gets better with the heat they collect which only appears in the game and cannot be used elsewhere.
-the amazing powerful thing at the end would be a massive monster boss guarding a treasure chest in which they would be a new weapon that is only available there.
- and i get that lag is a major problem i just said it because i wanted this to be more tactics based. so maybe you can revive but at high prices?
- i think people should pay with energy maybe 20 energy?
and i like Ltmauve's idea but i think that i would quite like it as a kind of separate thing that could be an alternative to constantly doing depths.
and Gogller i think that would be a good idea and that's what i thought it should be :P. ok and Ltmauve i think that your last idea is good as well maybe something like the silver key, called something like the ultimiser which could be available at the accezorisor.
-oh and i almost forgot every now and agian on the good rout there would be monsters 'guarding' their treasure to make it a bit more interesting but the monsters would be easier to defeat than the wrong route monsters.
