Categorizing Friend Lists - Let us organize our buddies!

Idea: Enable players to categorize, organize, and add their friends into Sub-Lists. Much in the same way players can already set up Loadouts and name them accordingly, this would let us add specific friends to lists in order to allow us easier access to invite the right people; in the same way that there's a "Friends" and "Guild" group, underneath that might be "Vanaduke Runners", "Lockdown", etc.

Examples:

"Vanaduke Runners"
"T3 people"
"Shadow Lair peeps"
"Lockdown buddies"
Etc.

Why do this?

As the friend # on your list goes up, it no doubt gets difficult to keep track of everybody in terms of what they run often or what gear they have; it's even worse if you're inviting people for a run and can't remember who is geared up appropriately (and/or people you'd usually invite are offline). This makes it much easier to immediately put people into the right areas, which helps everybody out!

Cost to Economy/OOO:

None. This is a purely aesthetic change/improvement. Of course, a nominal fee for making each new list could be considered (like the in-game mail/attachment system), but this is entirely up to the OOO team.

End Result (TL;DR):

Better organization, fewer accidental or inconvenient invites, and happier playerbase overall.

Filing friends

We could also use an external text program to record names, such as Notepad or Word, delegating names to categories fit to their affiliation to the user.

We could also know our friends better on a personal scale rather than throwing friend invites at random people.

We could also be Smeagol and get the precious.

Normally I'd be among the dozens who laud your critiques of suggestions on this forum, but this time I have to disagree or provide a rebuttal on both accounts.

1) Using an external program simply means that users would have to keep switching back and forth between programs to a) Hunt for the names on the list, and then b) hunt on their friend list to see if that person is even online. It's an unnecessary waste of time and adds hardly any convenience, if any at all.

2) Social media research has given us the Dunbar Number, which suggests that an average person, AT ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM, can manage to remember details of up to 150 "friends", family, or close ones in their lifetime. SK allows a friend list of up to 250 people, which I'm sure a fair number eventually do put to use. To expect that people would be able to keep track of that list beyond a small select few, on a regular basis, is a very generous expectation of the average user.

I am more than open to any additional feedback you may have, but at least try to make it more applicable as a "more convenient solution" rather than offering alternative solutions outright that don't involve input or effort from the developers as a result.

I could certainly find this useful. I think the majority of my friend list can be broken down into three groups.

* People running FSC at every opportunity.
* People up for running anything at tier 3 level (or at least more than FSC).
* People still more or less tier 2 level who might want to poke me for assistance here and there.

Having some kind of visual reminder of these things would be useful so I don't go accidentally asking that tier 2 knight to go run the fire/jelly tier 3 gate with me and have them awkwardly explain why they can't do that.

Rather than categories, I

Rather than categories, I feel like it might be easier for them, and more useful to us players to just add a freeform note field, shown only to the player.

That way you can put whatever you want there "good gunner" "I owe him 1000CR" "helped me level up" "joe's alt" etc, and you aren't constrained by categories.

Or new categories of groups,

Or new categories of groups, where we can assign our friends. So we will have a category Friends, and there subcategory for anything we want.

Your comment is pretty much exactly what the idea was going for: in the same way that there's a "Friends" and "Guild" group, underneath that might be "Vanaduke Runners", "Lockdown", etc.
