This was the first time elevators were free. Usually they're just at reduced (half) cost, and they haven't done that in a LONG time.

Wouldn't mind if they'd do it again.
I was away on vacation at the time they hosted the event (I still deserve those two damn free elevator days) And haven't seen many Power Surge events.
So, on that note, they usually just host these events after something goes terribly wrong, or they're feeling like giving a little extra to the community while they work on the bigger picture.

That was a one-off event as a result of hitting a certain number of players... they decided to have a mini celebration/bump the price of CE (delete as necessary according to whether you're a conspiracist or not).
Normally you get half-price elevator deals. I think the last of these was at Christmas, when the new update caused some epic lag problems. They decided to compensate temporarily by cutting elevator costs, although they eventually managed to fix the actual issues about four hours later. I don't even know when the one before THAT was...

It was only 2 hours, however I used mist tank because I thought we have half price elevator whole day!! I wasted mist tank...;_;
