Rose Regalia are specifically intended to be costume items. The Darkfang however, is actually meant to be used as an item and not a costume, yet the Owlite protects against the same things, is much easier to obtain, and has a 5*.

Just isn't right.
Around 5 people have found the extremely rare DarkFang shield...

I came across the famous Dani today (not going to put the full name)
3 Darkfang Shields:
First one: Max Piercing and Normal
Second: Max Elemental and Shadow
Third: Max Elemental and Normal

I have found 4 star skelly armor in FSC wolver coat in snarby jelly armor in JK and i have found a couple other thing but nothing like that nuts

There aren't very many in existence, at least as far as the community knows (who knows, might be someone,somewhere, who has a crap ton of the things but keeps them a secret...). I know Danizpsycho has like 3 of the things, each with max uv's. It's unbelievable,really. I think Unity has one as well. But as far as rare items go, this one takes the cake, with z cores and sleep uv's just behind the darkfang. Good luck finding one, you're gonna need it.

And thats how I lost interst in cosmetic details. If you see an ugly knight with costumes that don't match, it's me. In my computer I look fabulous.

I didn't do this research, so don't quote me on it. A friend is big into the Gremlin weaponry and did a ton of DFS research for me...

The theories say:
• There are said to be either 7 or 9 DFS in existence, with the preference on 9.
• At one point, there was a knight who owned 5 of the shields selling them for 2,000,000 crowns each. This player no longer plays Spiral Knights.
- Supposedly... Dani owns 2.
- Unity owns 1.
- Unknown/lost/abandoned knight owns 1.
- Knight with unknown name due to inactivity owns 5.
• DFS are still capable of being found, but only in Gremlin Clockwork Levels (Gremlin Grounds, Deconstruction Zones) in Tier 3 treasure boxes.
• The rarity of finding the shields is in the hundredths of a percent (0.0x%; 1 in over 10,000 treasure box openings has a chance of being a DFS).
• You probably won't ever find one in your lifetime. You are more likely to slip in the shower and die in real life than you are to finding a DFS.
• The DFS is not pursued for its stats. It is desired for bragging rights (the same way owners of Zee Cores and Sleep UVs have bragging rights).

Where did the statement about only finding the DFS in Tier 3 Decon zones arise? Were eyewitness accounts collected from at least three or so more instances of a DFS spawn? With an n=9, I'd be hesitant to say there's any sort of association between Decon zones and the DFS. Two reports would be a good start, but I'd hesitate to draw any conclusions without at least three confirmations. And if there are any reports of DFS being found outside of Decon zones, then all bets are off. Personally, I think the best way is probably to break as many treasure boxes in Tier 3 as possible, possibly with preference to strata 5 if it's more likely to spawn 4* items. But of course, trying to find a DFS is like stating you are trying to win the lottery.

On an aside- I recall in Diablo II, outside of specially boosted probabilities as quest drops, the odds of getting certain high level runes were on the order of 1 in many billions.
