When I am on my laptop which has windows 7, spiral knights takes FOREVER to install an update whenever it reboots. In 15 minutes, it is only at 3%, and the time until completion has risen the entire time to the point where it is now saying there is over an hour until the update is installed. Can anyone help with this?

Try re-installing the game...
After getting to 10% with 4500:18 left, i decided to re-install the game and it is updating just a bit faster.

We are aware of the problem;
We are aware of the problem; it's actually very likely not a problem on your end in most of the cases and our engineers are currently looking into what may be causing this problem for several players right now.
I'm afraid I can't name a reason for the issue at this point, but I can assure you that we're doing our best to get this resolved as soon as we can. Right now the best you can do is have patience, give the download some time and if it fails, keep trying again or a little later. Hopefully we'll have the cause of this issue identified and fixed soon.

Here we go, looks like our tech gremlins managed to fix things. Everything should be working normally again now. If your download is stuck, please simply abort and retry - you should see normal download times again from then on.

Still not happening D:
Fine until 47%, validating, then it says 19956:42 left, been like that for nearly 3 hrs and its going up still. Downloading was fine but validating taking ages.
I got the same issue :/
