Auto-shielding during lagspikes

I hate it when i lag for a few seconds and suddenly find my knight dead on the floor, vanquished by that Lumber i almost had. So, what if when a player starts lagging more than a certain amount, the game automatically makes you bring up your shield? That way you can take a few hits before you log back on, but it wouldn't be like there's an indestructible bubble around you or that would get abused to all hell. No, you;d just have your regular shield for a few seconds, leaving you with a still-living knight after you regain your connection. A friend of mine had this idea, but his SK account is derping right now so he asked me to post it instead.

I think the server can register a d/c, but not a lag spike.

I'm not quite sure what to think of a way to survive a d/c. It's be useful, heck yeah, but I have some reservations...

Personally, I think it SHOULD grant invincibility, but only for about 10~15 seconds, and then on reconnection getting the 'joined a party' invincibility.

Right now I can't think of a way this could be abused, except maybe Lockdown and control points, so maybe it could be deactivated for PvP areas...

You mean like the 'You have THIS long to reconnect before you're allowed to be torn to shreds'?

Sounds somewhat good to me. As long as they can balance it right.

We were thinking that the shield would act like the time limit. If you reconnect while your shield is still around, hey, you're fine. if not, well, death. just a way of making disconnection/lag easier to cope with.

I can think of plenty of situations autoshielding won't help enough. Walk into a floor trap? See you. Running away from Mecha Knights? Hope you don't connect to see you're being shock/freeze-locked to death. Boss fight, or any part of Shadow Lairs involving combat? Buh bye.

That being said, it might even be WORSE to be shielding during a lagspike; your speed is cut in half after all. In the case of Mecha Knights, I'd much rather reconnect in the opposite corner than find out they made me drop all my precious green and red cards. Those are valuable you know! The purple and yellow ones are cheap, though. But they don't make you drop THOSE, those pesky robots!

The only problem I can foresee with invincibility during DCs is reconnecting to find you're surrounded... Which is where the 'joined a party' mercy comes into play.

Good point Draycos, we were just thinking about some way to make lagging more bearable. Maybe the mercy invincibility works better in the end...
