'Ello peeps. I know you're thinking 'Oh, boy...it's this guy again', but I just got this silly idea.

Have you ever wished you could type '/me raises his hand', and actually raise your hand, instead of having to type '/wave' afterward? Probably not, but oh well.

So my idea is that whenever you type anything you could link a single emoticon to your text. Like so...

"/me raises his hand. :wave:"
Result: Examplemonkey1 raises his hand. *Wave emoticon*

"I just can't figure the guy out. :shrug:"
Result: I just can't figure the guy out. *Shrug emoticon*

Or, if you wanted to do an emoticon without anything being posted in the chat box...

":lol:"
Result: *laugh emoticon* (No "Examplemonkey1 laughs" in chatbox).

The emoticon link would only work once, so only the first ':xxx:' would work. Any others after that would actually say ':xxx:' in the chatbox.

I thought it was kind of a fun idea.

We did have that for a little

We did have that for a little while but then the devs decided to cut it out. But I guess that was different since those were based on smileys eg. :), :(, :D.

@Jenny

Severage is proposing something else. He's proposing an optional way to add an animation to /e, where OOO put it in so that smilies and phrases like lol were automatically changed into "exampleknight laughs".

Directly commanded actions

In terms of social aspects this would offer more expression between people instead of two anonymous masks exchanging words.

Not much I can comment on here. Actions from text commands.

Makes sense.

I can't really think of any way this would interfere too much with normal communications, and it doesn't seem too difficult from a programming perspective. I can't say for sure since I don't know exactly how the chat system is coded, but it seems there's already potential to convert text to actions. As Jennytheturtle pointed out, we had that one semi-disastrous update at some point that took away our ability to use simple text emotes, but it should work out as long as some token characters are required for the string to convert to action.

@Sev
How's the game creation stuff working out? Or are you too busy with WoW?

@Schattentag:

Warning: (Non-SK-Related)

Well I used Autodesk 3DS Max for 30 days and created a render-ready model, for the most part. I mean the only thing left to do on it would be textures and animation. Unfortunately between WoW and real life (And perhaps a measure of slacking off), it took the whole free trial to get it there.

Before you ask, yes, it was one (1) single (That's 1) model. I probably only worked some 18 hours on it, which is <30 min a day. As a note, it was a whole ship. Modeled based on a real ship called the Cutty Sark, which I happen to have an actual real life model of. Makes it easier to model. It's likely the ship you'd start out with in my game.

Hexagon 2.5 is such a limited, buggy system, 3DS was like heaven compared to it. I really don't want to do any work in Hexagon now because it's 1) difficult to change into other modelers, 2) buggy, 3) has limited functionality, and 4) crashes a lot. It feels like I'm beta testing a 3-D modeler, not using one. It's pretty bad.

But that's a discussion for a proper place (SK forums, y u no have PMs?).

Back on topic:

Yes, the point in those "::", or "token characters", as you call them, is to prevent something like the invasion of the smileys from happening again. It seems pretty harmless, and just popped up in my head the other day. It's not brilliant or anything, but I, for some reason, felt the need to make a new suggestions topic since my Guild Hall one is now announced TBR.
