First, to clear things up, this is not advertisement for my Bazaar thread. However, I use to use the Biohazard, and I've been in the process of auctioning it, and I see that very few people use it. Why do you think this is so? I thought it makes great use for jellies.

Catalyzers also take more time to use efficiently (slow bullets, setting up the charges takes time, you have to wait for monsters to get close together before blowing them up) and are hard to use in parties because other people get aggro or push the monsters around.

I swear they're probably devastating as a defensive weapon if there are more than one in a party, but that's a rarity ._.

design problems

not only what juances said, but it doesn't do as much damage as umbra either.
the benefit is the poison, but the regular bullets poison too infrequently and the charged-shot setup is too janky.
if the charged shot was just a detonation and the regular shots poisoned more frequently it would be a much better weapon.

I think it's the second most

I think it's the second most fun weapon in the game, but it's not very good in parties unless you're playing with friends/guildies who know to leave clumped slimes and gremlins for you.

It's also garbage in Lockdown compared to Polaris, both due to the fact that the charge attack does nothing since people can only take one hit a time and that the regular shots are weaker than Trollaris at range (obviously you don't want to use ether gun at close proximity).

It's very powerful against slimes, but so is practically every non-piercing weapon in the game. It's also powerful against gremlins but so is every non-elemental weapon in the game. It's kinda useful against turrets but it's harder to cancel turrets with Biohazard than Trollaris or even Callahan.

Biohazard is a tactical gun that requires cooperation and setup in a game played by people with little patience where instant gratification weapons quite frankly are better.

what does the damage counter say about that biohazard!?

In light of recent developments, I took my biohazard to Lockdown and tried to do some pure-biohazard games:

http://i.imgur.com/iMZJm.jpg <- first full game without disconnecting, 6265 damage lol

then a few more game later, I got used to it and...
http://i.imgur.com/aThqO.jpg <- personal record, 6v6, 9010 damage!
http://i.imgur.com/pG6rj.jpg <- game right after, 4v4, 8520 damage!

(Recon gunning total max ASI, VH damage for guns)
While charge is unusable in lockdown, Biohazard is a fun wall.

It pairs up nicely with vortex (hit all the shots!) and shock status, since shock does nice things for you when you have insane ASI.

- and yes, I did only post this because I want to brag about the >9000 biohazard damage earlier lol.

Tips:
- bully swordy/bomber strikers and guardians.
- just like PVE, it's better when you have aggro lol.

Auction it if you really need

Auction it if you really need the caps.

Catalyzers aren't a favourable weapon to use in PUG games, due to a more proper coordination and teamwork to effectively maximize its damage output (which can be ridiculously strong when used correctly)

As others have mentioned the shadowtech has more DPS than the bio (when you factor in ricochets), the recipes are much easier to acquire, and the projectile velocity is pretty standard with most of the other handguns.

The poison proc happens often but arguably a VV/Blight Needl/DVS would do a much better job at afflicting the status. Although I must admit using the bio to afflict poison is IMO much more satisfying...

All in all bio is very fun to use, but the reason its such a rare sight is that there are other weapons that will serve its role more efficiently:

Want shadow dmg in a handgun? Umbra.
Want to be a mobile poison status dealer? DVS or Plague Needle
Just want to explode clusters of mobs? Use bio's twin brother, the Neutralizer.

Taking the bio into LD however..... Such an underdog weapon...

@Seiran

Those are some interesting numbers, I suppose.

Out of curiousity, how much damage would you deal if you brought a Polaris instead?

Also, crucially, I can't help but notice that your team lost both times the enemies didn't have leavers.

a little more

@motorcat:
I wouldn't call Plague needle "Mobile", but it is reliable in that you charge and you nail poison for sure. Biohazard beats both of them in mobility lol.

@zeddy:
- I don't have polaris (or any of the pulsar line), but in longer games where I'm dealing heavy damage with Storm driver (my regular PVP gun), I tend to deal 10-15k more regularly. It's a much better crowd weapon, and a really powerful PVP weapon. Better than Nova/Umbra driver for PVP IMO, at least for my style of recon gunning.

- I almost pointed out the losses, but thanks for noticing lol.
Funny enough, I broke 10k last night too, in another game my team lost:

I'd say I'm above-average as a player, but I'm not exactly worth the muscle of 3-4 people like some 'ace' strikers (and especially not with JUST biohazard). In larger games, good teamwork is more important than one or two aces :P
In this screenshot, the other team lost a (good) player but had 2 bombers and a fairly decent Striker so they could hold points much longer than my team could.

Anyway, the point of this other than bragging/wtf-factor is kinda just to show that Biohazard is actually usable in PVP, much to my surprise lol.
It definitely takes a lot more reading and spam to set up, but it actually kinda works. Imagine a Polaris hit doing only 2.5 pips of damage due to poison lol.

While charging but before you're fully charged, release the attack button and then immediately press it again. I haven't seen this technique described anywhere- I call it the attack-cancel, and it works exactly like the shield-cancel, charge-cancel or vial-cancel, except that your recovery animation is replaced with a second attack.

It works with any weapon, but it's most useful with two-swing swords and three-shot guns. Use it with an Umbra Driver, and you shoot twice, then stand there helplessly while you reload. Use it with a Biohazard, and you shoot twice, go back into charge state, and can immediately do it again.

You can get a pretty incredible rate of fire going. I think that an Umbra Drive using shoot-shield-switch out damages you, but it's much easier on the fingers.
