When the Cobalt and Plate lines were buffed with defense other than normal, the Ironmight plate shield got piercing defense, the Volcanic plate armor got elemental defense, so why didn't the Volcanic plate shield get elemental defense also?

That wasn't the point though
The purpose of the update was to make them more useful in a wider range of levels, and Ironmight's massive increase in piercing defense made it perfect for beast and jelly stratums, when in the first place there was already the Barbarous thorn shield for them. Adding elemental to the VPS instead of increasing it's normal by a bit (any specific amount? =/= medium?) will make it a more viable option for gremlin and construct stratums, so not forcing everyone to use owlite for max effectiveness.

When was this update you speak of?
Instead of receiving elemental (wich would be redundant, since we already have similar shields, like owlite) it got a longer normal bar to differentiate it.
