Alternate way to fix the "Unable to initialize the game's graphical display without updating drivers?

I have a BIG problem. Every time I try to run the game on my parents' laptop, no matter what, it always shows "We were unable to initialize the game's Graphical display." I think the problem lies in one of 8-27 outdated drivers. Unfortunately, I cannot do much, due to a hard drive crash long ago in my parents' laptop that had been fixed with something called Windows Loader, which can be possibly deleted if I try to update the drivers. I'd be playing it now on my computer, if it weren't for "Error 1606: Could not find network location %APPDATA%" on my eMachines comp, and the fact that I am afraid to edit the registry and mess up my entire computer. I need some advice. Is the problem possibly somewere else that doesn't need updating?

"Windows Loader" sounds like piracy in wich case they wont help you.

But I dont see how updating video drivers would affect it.

..Huh. Well, that leaves me no choice but to edit MY computer's registry so I can fix Error 1606.

Can someone give me some help for using regedit to fix Java Error 1606?

Greetings,

Typically Java Error 1606 messages can be removed by completely uninstalling Java and the downloading and installing the most recent copy from Java.com. Also, it may be worth while to try the Downloadable Installer and selecting an install location outside of the Application Data folder.

As for your specific error message. That either means your graphics card is in compatible with Spiral Knights or you need to update your graphics drivers. If you cannot update the graphics driver on that computer then Spiral Knights will not run in its current state.

Actually, that IS the

Actually, that IS the problem. I have tried to install Java on my computer, but to no avail. I still get the error message 1606 every time I try to install Java. It always shows the network location %APPDATA%. Uninstalled previous versions. No dice. Even tried the offline installer. No luck. It probably has to do with registry errors. If you need the registry information, tell me where I should get the information from. (There is this string called (Default) in about every single folder of entries in the registry. The type is REG_SZ and the data shows (value not set)). I am not sure if the downloadable installer will run without Java, and I do not want to take my chances with it.

The Downloadable installer

The Downloadable installer will install it's own encapsulated version of Java if no system installation is detected. Though I'm am unaware how it would react to your scenario.

As for ordinary Java packages not being able to install at all, I'm sorry, but that's not something I'm able to troubleshoot. You'll likely need to contact Oracle's Support for solving it.

Okay, then.

Wish me luck that this is successful.

FAIL

Timed out partway through the connection. Sorry for all consecutive posts. I'll be reporting results in a post for each attempt to install.

FAIL (again)

Same as before. I'm afraid the situation is worse. I think it's a registry error. I think the problem lies in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer>User Shell Folders.

Okay, Microsoft Fixit seems

Okay, Microsoft Fixit seems to have fixed the problem, but I can't install. It has problems connecting to host. Even worse, The Java Download page seems to be down. If I try to access the page, I get an Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE). I MIGHT be able to install successfully, since I have the installer for Java in my computer, but not the plugin itself.

Hello,

From what you've posted your problem is far beyond the scope of an error with Spiral Knights. The kind of errors you are posting suggest much larger problems with your Windows installation; possibly hardware problems, mass data corruption or malicious software in the background. This is something that is exceedingly difficult to diagnose remotely and is outside the scope of the troubleshooting services we offer.

I'm sorry, but I can't help you solve your problem.
