Different playstyles, depends on you. You cant say wich one is better.

Bombs shine agaisnt large mobs and most of them provide support.
Swords are the cannon fodder that goes in front and has the best damage on sigle targets.

Bombs are there for support. They cause massive AOE pandemonium. They don't kill though.

Vortex bombs are probably the swordsman's favorite bomb to fight with. It lumps huge amounts of enemies together, allowing them to be EASILY slashed apart. If I have a friend who is dropping Vortex Bombs, then yeah I could probably kill three times as much as normal. If that is happening, then you're doing your job as a bomber.

Admittedly, trying to kill with bombs isn't the best. Off the top of my head, the only exceptions are Spine Cone -> Dark Briar Barrage, the Crystal Bomb -> Radiant Sun Shards, and MAYBE some of the Status Bombs. You don't want to cause excessive knockback when trying to kill with bombs, because Bombs will do less damage than swords, and the knockback will make your teammates have a hard time hitting with their swords.

If you do want to go bomber, consider some of the Status Bombs. The Freezing Vaporizer -> Shivermist Buster is a bit situational, but it is beloved and heavily demanded in the Tier 3 Boss Strata, Firestorm Citadel. One of the most dangerous weapons in PvP is the Static Capacitor -> Voltaic Tempest, capable of rendering anyone who walks into its radius incapable of moving or attacking, while still doing a reasonable amount of damage. The Toxic Vaporizer -> Venom Veiler pretty much kills rooms full of enemies, as long as said enemies have a healer (When an enemy gets healed while poisoned, they take damage based on how much they should have been healed).

Above all else, remember to not limit yourself for the sake of labels. Like bombs and swords? They aren't mutually exclusive. You can take BOTH at the same time. If you go hybrid, then I might suggest investing in a 3rd Weapon Slot. It seems like a waste of money at first, but its about 12k crowns a MONTH (You can make 12k in about 2 days), and a 3rd weapon is INCREDIBLY useful.

agree

I usually play as a pure sworder, but sometimes I play as a pure bomber (or pure gunner). These three extremes are really different from each other, but all pretty fun.

When playing as a bomber, try to figure out how to arrange the monsters, so that you hit many of them at once and do big damage. Then, try to figure out how to do this faster, so that you can raise your DPS. Notice I'm not telling you how to do it; I'm saying that this puzzle will be fun for you to work on, while you bomb.

A good combo

Also you could use a vortex to suck the monsters in to 1 place and charge your grinto and that will shock, freeze, and do massive damage.

There is no reason to limit

There is no reason to limit yourself to just one type of weapon. no joy man. my loadouts tend to consist of more than just sword, gun, or bomb (unless I'm doing something interesting). its usually a mix of the two. so I'd say get yourself a set of spiral demo gear and work on making a bomb focus module trinket to help with your bomb charging. also look into the static capacitor bomb. just something to think about doing, I have fun mixing it up.

There's a thing that people

There's a thing that people are neglecting to mention here, I think, and that's CTR.

Charge Time Reduction is a DPS bomber's stock in trade; you want yours to be as high as possible. You won't be able to keep up with sword-using friends if you're still in sword armour and with underleveled bombs. There is a huge difference between no CTR and VH (medium from lv10, low and low from equipment) that will help you get ahead.

If you don't have any bomber armour and want some, shoot me a PM ingame (Vagueabond) and I'll send you a set. It really does make a difference.

Or alternatively, learn to

Or alternatively, learn to get really good at dodging and shield bumping and make Chaos. Universal damage and CTR med with both pieces, so best of both worlds. The drawback is that the defenses are meh and you have a -2 weakness to 5 statuses on each piece by default. It's pretty much the only armor I wear nowadays, and it really punishes you if you screw up or abuse faust charges.

There's a huge difference

There's a huge difference between CTR Very High and CTR Max too. I don't even bother bombing without two pieces of Mad/Volcanic demo.
