Supernova buff or Polaris nerf

Compared to the Polaris, the Supernova pretty much sucks since the polaris deals equal damage to neutral enemies, but it causes shock in addition, so what about buffing the damage of the Supernova? Remember: We already have similiar system with alchemers and the catalyzer series: Damage traded for a status effect, so why shouldn't the pulsar line be similiar?
To restore balance, we could either buff the supernova or nerf the polaris. The mechanic even applies to the pulsar line <5*, so why does it disappear on the 5* version ? (Telling from the damage bars on the wiki)
And in case the bars are wrong, there might still be the need for slight buff for the supernova.

Causing shock isn't always a good thing. Due to the shock, polaris does not always knock back enemies, making them more balanced. Also keep in mind that supernova will always be better against gremlins, although I personally find the umbra driver to be SUPER EFFECTIVE at taking them out as it is.

@Fehzor The shock is (except for quicksilvers) a good thing, since that means that they will be locked in place and won't get knocked away from the following bullets, and thus take more damage.
And you shouldn't use gremlins as an argument - polaris deals specialized damage and thus has some advantages and disadvantages over certain enemies. What makes it unbalanced is the shock as a bonus attribute.

But if you wanted damage, you would just bring a different handgun, e.g. nova driver. Not only would you get more damage, but it would be reliable damage that won't randomly push back the enemy or shock them into not being pushed back... it would be predictable in that sense. Thus, the guns are to be used for two things- knockback, and sniping turrets. Supernova is better than polaris at pushing them back, whilst polaris is better at taking out turrets.

@Fehzor we already have the

@Fehzor we already have the mechanic in lines <5*, why do they need to deal equal damage in the 5* version? Still, the status effect kinda makes it slightly unbalanced compared to the supernova line, so a slight damage buff for the supernova (only 5* gun) wouldn't hurt.

why do they need to deal equal damage in the 5* version?

Because the shock isn't always a good thing, and it is already weak to weapons that fill relatively the same role.

Perhaps Supernova was meant to be stronger than Polaris but then Polaris got buff?

Anyway, I'm against all these suggestions. Let's maintain the status quo

NOPE.

http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Toxic_Catalyzer --> actually stronger, lol
Thast seriously outdated, but still.....

And alchemers dont have a normal equivalent, dont use them as example.

Truth is all the normal weapon really suck compared to special ones in one way or another. A brandish regular combo does slightly more damage than a calibur too.

@Little-Juances: Nope. This

@Little-Juances: Nope Nope. This kind if mechanic DOES exist in the catalyzer lines.

Comparison is easier if you look at this and scroll down to the neutralizer:
