As shield cancel isn't an intended mechanic in SK, but to fix it seems that it would be hard, I thought about a way to work around this, at least in the Antigua line.

Do you know how when using the charge attack in the Antigua lines, a bird appears (Depending on path)? Well, we would put a smaller "bird shot" in the last shot of the clip, that would do increased damage.

This way, we would make more attractive the idea of using the full clip, or at least give it a deeper mechanic. Maybe this could be implemented in other weaponry somehow.

Where is it stated by any of the developers that it was unintentional? I'm not accusing you of misinforming or being presumptuous, just asking for a citation since I don't happen to remember such a thing and doubt that most readers do.

Also, unintentional does not mean undesirable; see _serendipity._ It is of importance here, though, in light of the non-Pierce Autoguns...
Shield-cancel has become an important part of SK gameplay, whether it was intentional or not, and I can't recall any evidence that it is in any way problematic on a global level; the relative balance between toothpicks and other swords is screwy, but front-loading rather than back-loading the attack combo is only one small part of why. I do like your idea of more back-loading, though, for the same reason of depth you described. Moar nuance is good, a sense of meaningful choice is a big part of a satisfying game experience for most peops.

We had a similar discussion, outside of antiguas, here:

@Geosmin

The devs didn't state shard bomb mechanics were unintentional either until they suddenly did. We should perhaps rather ask where it's stated that shield cancels are intentional, as it doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would be.

Wrong topic, good idea. It

Wrong topic, good idea.

It doesn't have anything to do with shield cancelling, you can avoid reloading a gun by just simply pausing. Although shield cancelling noticably helps getting to move faster with Blitz and Callahan, it has nothing to do with avoiding reloading.

There does in fact need to be a reason not to avoid reloading a gun. Sorry, but you reload guns. That is how guns work. I should not be able to fire off 200 bullets from my Antigua without reloading. I don't want to hear this as not intended, it is just too quirky and awkward.

I don't think we need to make it flashy or make falconpiercers pop out of the last shot: that should be unique to the last shot of the charge attack only. Considering a falconpiercer can deal more damage than a blitz charge in a single charge attack of the Argent Peacemaker against a pack of zombies when used correctly, the charge attack of an antigua is pretty dang unique. All we need to do is build gun damage the more bullets repeatedly hit the monster.

Force reload but reduce penalty?

Why not force the reload to happen (on all guns btw), but reduce or take away the movement speed penalty? It is odd that you can fire forever by skipping the last shot. It's just that if you do not force it, people will still try to avoid that last shot to avoid the reload, unless shooting the last shot made it THAT much better, which would be odd.

@The-Rawrcake What if your Antigua was belt fed? XD

I'm full of wacky unsuable ideas about weapons I've never held

Maybe one could even give merit to the reloading itself? I'm imagining a Valiance reload being preceded or punctuated by a slash with the bayonet-knife you never see used for anything that'll do some nice knockback to the enemies in front of you. I like the dynamics of this because you'd only spam up all the Valiance bullets if there was something you were desperately trying to push away, which could only be if it was in your face.

The last shot from Biohazard/Neutralizer would just be its charge. It works with that particular gun because it has a ridiculously fast charge time anyway and spamming charge inbetween two regular shots shouldn't get you as far as stacking charges anyway.

i agree!

i agree that the appearance of the gun should have something to do with how the mechanics works, but i guess its just what the developers didn't have in mind when they created it.

The game already rewards using a full sword combo with extra damage, I'd be fine with this.
