Clockworks's structure, possessing all required for autonomous existence. It comprises of itself power stations, sectors for production of the new modules and salvaging old, life-support system and a great deal another. So there was logical if in it were also powerful computing blocks.
E.g. so: in this levels everything looks at structures looks as chipsets, everything on background is around green-cyan colored. Music also suitable to interior. Very often shock-themed traps, which can even become switched on randomly, or even twins-like lasers.
Which enemies contains it? I suggest that - first level releases SHUFFLEBOTS (same as Advanced Training Hall), then wall-attached emitters may transform it to any other unit randomly. In can be randomly selected unit, no restriction for it (e.g. wolver, zombie, smoking howlitzer, sloom, royal mini jelly, love puppy, gremlin mortafire, devilite boss e.t.c), except bosses. It also may retransform it to any other unit (potentially healing it?). While dying it for a short time retransforms back to shufflebot, then explodes.
Sometimes CPU-themed level releases large enemy, that looks at king-sized shufflebot, like royal jelly is king-sized jelly cube. This shufflebot can use its head flashlight to create hologram around player (players), transforming interior & background to any other theme (wolver den, candlestick keep, graveyard, cooling chamber e.t.c.) & release same themed enemies, that don't drop loot. Music also will be changed. While theme's changed big shufflebot's invisible & cannot be damaged. All they must be wiped out, then everything returned to normal state, & shufflebot can be damaged for a while, if it wasn't destroyed, after few moments it start change again. Big shufflebot's may be meeted often in button room battles.

What? I dont see it fitting
Spiral HQ or gremlin techology may look more modern, but the clokworks themselves have a more old or steampunk feel.
