I haven't made a idea for a long time until I thought of something for Haven.

Why don't we have different times like daytime and night time? We can make a rotation every 6 hours. Not 12 hours, not 1 year, not 12 decades, just 6 hours. Or 12 hours. Whichever may work for you guys. (Suggested by Little-Juances). The daytime and night time will take place in Haven, and the Bazaar ONLY! Just like what happened in the rescue camp. It was daytime and then it turned at night.

The rotation would start as night time, then it becomes daytime. If you play Spiral Knights like maybe 5:00am PST, and your still in Haven until 7:00am, then around 6:00am, it will become light. Also, there won't be rain, snow or become a season.

The night time and daytime would effect by PST game time. You can still play Spiral Knights even if it's night time in Spiral knights.

If you like this idea, then thanks and if you don't, please say it in a nice way as possible with no raging or any way. Thanks

It seems counter-intuitive to make it player-side and check every location.

Just put in some global random cycle that doesnt follow any particular timezone.
It doesnt even have to emulate a 24h day. Maybe a 5h rotation so eventually, everyone will see it no matter what time do they usually play in.
(for example players that only have free time between 1-5pm will find this cycle useless if it followed real world logic)

The game occurs in a misterious planet, not on our Earth.

I think it would be rather

I think it would be rather nifty, though server side seems like a better idea. That being said, I think it'd be interesting if it just did its own 3 hour/day rotation, or something like that.

8x switching? Maybe 4x is

8x switching? Maybe 4x is enough. Also, maybe we can make a pattern for Haven servers. So for Odd-Numbered Servers like Haven 1, 3, 5, etc... it would be daytime while for Haven 2, 4, 6, it would be night time.

Sounds pretty cool, i would like it if they added a clock or something in town square, that would be cool. They could also have festivels at night only every now and than with lights and minigames and stuff. +1

Considering the time we all

Considering the time we all spend in Haven that would be adorable and a great feature

Processing Thoughts of You Always

Sure, why not? As long as implementing it doesn't interfere with other updates, then this would be a nice thing to have, giving Haven a little more atmosphere. Hurr. Just to be awkward, I vote for rotation once every 8 hours. We even have a valid excuse, it's an alien planet so it has a different speed of rotation to Earth!

At least 4 - 8 hours of

At least 4 - 8 hours of daytime and night time. Maybe 6 hours is perfect, but what Aureate said, it's a Alien world and has a different rotation speed.

Finally

I've been wanting to suggest this for months, but I figured since it was largely an aesthetic suggestion that it might not be worth the dev's precious time.

The model I envisioned was 3 hours per day/night making a full cycle 6 hours. The sunrise/sunset transitions would take maybe an hour. A quick cycle time would be nice so that way if you only log in for a little while, there is a good chance you'll see some level of change.

I also think reusing the rain effects from Wolver Dens would be a nice touch for use as a random weather event.

Edit: The real trick for the devs will be transitioning the assets of the environment out while people are still standing in haven. Most environments in this game are loaded and set at level initialization and then remain that way until you leave.

Does the game support tweening lighting and tilesets or can you only make a discrete change when you load a new place?

In a way...

I think If we look at the day/night time change events in pokemon games, we rarely see a tile/screen difference change before our eyes. I don't know why, but if they followed that kind of pattern of style to change day/night, it would look much more fluid.

Will there be evening?

without a sunset or sunrise, it will be creepy during a transition. Walking casually, and Bam! somebody turn off the lights.
*someone yells "the Truman show!" :0

maybe....
1st 6hours: Sunrise
2nd 6hours: Daylight
3rd 6hours: Sunset
4th 6hours: Night time
and all over again...

p.s. problem is, will there be a loading screen to make light/darkness?

@Canine Thank you for your

@Canine

Thank you for your suggestion.

To help you with your problem, sunrise and sunset will go very quick. At 6:00am, it will be sunrise. So:

12:00am - 6:00am = Night time
6:00am = Sunrise
6:00am - 12:00pm = Daytime
12:00pm = Sunset
12:00pm - 6;00 pm = Night time
6:00pm = Sunrise
6:00pm - 12:00am = Sunset

Thats how the rotation should go. No, there wont be a loading screen to make light/darkness. There will be lamp posts in Haven and the sunset/sunrise will slowy go to the next day or night time(s).

The problem about saying

The problem about saying there won't be a loading screen is we don't actually know if the game can do that (yet).

Ultimately, they can make it so it could but it may come at the cost of a lot of development time and ruining performance on some people's computers.

Even so, like I said earlier, I want this to happen too.

@Choobski
There won't be a loading screen. But, the day and night time will not happen this year, or in the next 3 years. It will happen in the far future, as they can find a way to do the screen without loading it. Maybe go by the sunrise and sunset. That can work more than a automatic night and day time.

@Fireherat
Can you please make the sentence a bit more clearer? I can't really understand. Are you saying that you don't want day and night because people will go wild?

How about just instead of the time being server-based

the time is based on the user's computer? I think it's far easier that way.

i also

i would also like this feature, although i would like it better if they could simulate weather cycels like the one time in the chrismas event when it was snowing everywhere. well, maybe thats pushing it too far, but what im saying is i would not mine cloudy or rainy days. or even for a knight with hooting stars, not they land lol. more variations, not the same boring old day then night then day. give it a huge gust of wind or something with a humid air coming in making it a little misty. i know we dont se the sky in haven, but the ground could reflect the light of the shooting stars or have some puddles we run into after a rain. hmm, i hope this isn't too complex.
