Game freezes every couple of minutes and crashes after a while

Whenever I try playing Spiral Knights, it works fine for a while, then starts freezing for 3s every couple of minutes, and after a while (20 minutes or so), it just crashes completely, taking my WM with it.

I have tried this with both the 32bit and 64bit versions of the latest JRE (at the time of writing, 1.7.0_06), using different WMs, adding stuff like -Xmx2048M and -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC when launching the game, all with the same results.

I'm using Scientific Linux 6.3 x86_64, with the latest version of Java, using WMs like Compiz, xmonad and Openbox, all specs well above the minimum requirements.

Any ideas as to why the game doesn't want to run on my setup would be much appreciated.

Same results, sadly. It's what I was using at first so I thought the problem might have had something to do with that, but apparently not.
